Mineralogical Characterization and Beneficiation Studies of Pyrophyllite from Orissa, India  [PDF]

Abstract: Mineralogical and chemical analyses of three textural varieties of pyrophyllite samples collected from Baliadihi mine of Keonjhar district, Orissa, India are investigated. Mineralogically they consist of quartz, pyrophyllite, altered feldspar as major minerals and muscovite, chlorite, tourmaline, hematite etc. as minor minerals. The samples exhibit compositional variation of SiO2 65.56 - 71.66%, Al2O3 18.79- 22.94%, FeO 1.13- 1.68% and alkalis 3.24 to 6 %. Beneficiation studies using flotation technique has indicated that silica can be reduced with concomitant increase in alumina and brightness from a raw pyrophyllite sample which can be suitable for refractory purposes.

Abstract: Four patients aged 8, 35, 45 and 50 years (3 males and 1 female) were admitted to SCBMCH, Cuttack, skin and VD Department with multiple, painful, non healing phagadenic ulcers over body and not responding to the conventional therapeutic agents. The female patient was having severe seropositive rheumatoid arthritis. Pus culture was negative in all the cases. All the patients responded well to corticosteroid given systemically, but one male patient was having recurring episodes and ulcers healing hardly. He was given topical oxoferrin (TCDO) topically twice daily along with other supportive therapy. He responded well.

Abstract: High-energy nuclear collision provide a unique tool to study the strongly interacting medium. Recent results from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) on \phi-meson production has revealed the formation of a dense partonic medium. The medium constituents are found to exhibit collective behaviour initiated due to partonic interactions in the medium. We present a brief review of the recent results on \phi production in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC. One crucial question is where, in the phase diagram, does the transition happen for the matter changing from hadronic to partonic degrees of freedom. We discuss how \phi-meson elliptic flow in heavy-ion collisions can be used for the search of the QCD phase boundary.

Abstract: High-precision flavor physics measurements play a complementary role to the direct searches for new physics by CMS and ATLAS experiments at LHC. Such measurements will be performed with the Belle II detector at the upgraded KEKB accelerator (SuperKEKB) in Japan. The physics potential with emphasis on the charm sector, current status and future prospects of the Belle II experiment are presented in these proceedings.

Abstract: We summarize recent results on an array of CP violation measurements performed by the Belle experiment using the data collected near the Y(4S) and Y(5S) resonances at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.
