Abstract:
In several areas of engineering, it is possible to put real problems in mathematical functions; when we represent a problem with variables in the form of function, we were able to extract various information from it. This paper compared two different mathematical methods, being the finite difference method and the Fourth Order Range-Kutta method, to analyze the concentration and temperature of the water flow inside a tubular reactor. These results were compared with the analytical and experimental results of the problem, demonstrating that the Fourth Order Range-Kutta method was more advantageous than the finite difference method.

Abstract: The literature on product-service systems (PSS) raises the necessity of carrying out empirical work to contribute to the development of the subject as well as to offer operational solutions. In this sense, the present study presents the results of an investigation of a PSS example introduced in the country. Our objective is to analyze the Brazilian empirical example by relating it to the existing literature. A conceptual model of the PSS life-cycle was proposed based on the literature and is now used to evaluate the example. This model presents stages of creation, development and use of the PSS to demonstrate those aspects of the PSS studied. In addition, the model was a basis for data collection and analysis through interviews with people involved with the development of the PSS. The study stresses aspects of the life-cycle of the analyzed PSS. Despite the positive points that were identified, there is room for further improvement.
Fishing territoriality and diversity between the ethnic populations Ashaninka and Kaxinawá ,Breu river, Brazil/Peru
Amaral, Benedito Domingues do;
Acta Amazonica , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0044-59672004000100010
Abstract: this study describes the diversity and the subsistence fishing territoriality of traditional populations of a village ashaninka and two kaxinawá living at the margins of breu river (brasil/peru). in general, samplings in the dwellings were carried out late in the afternoon, as the fishermen arrived in the village. the data were analysed in an exploratory way through the index of pondered dominance (id%), by analysis of variance and by a correspondence analysis in order to determine the associations of the fish species and the fishing spots between the villages of the indigenous reserve. the results of the analysis of variance demonstrated that differences exist between the fish diversities of the catches. however, post-hoc tests only detected differences in diversities between the hand fishhook and the other fishing gears (bow and arrow, castnets and rotenone tingui). although the use of bow and arrow resulted in a low capture (kg), this fishing strategy is associated with a high fishing diversity, in terms of number of species. these results demonstrate that there is no overlap in the frequency of the visits to the fishing spots between the ashaninka and kaxinawá populations. this pattern is the same found for the correspondence analysis for the fish species, which describes the relationship between the deep pools environments exploited by the fishermen ashaninka and kaxinawá of mour?o. these ethnic populations still continue to maintain a strong cultural and cosmological tradition, with their territories defined in an informal way of the upper juruá area.
Fisheries and fishing effort at the Indigenous Reserves Ashaninka/Kaxinawá, river Breu, Brazil/Peru
Amaral, Benedito Domingues do;
Acta Amazonica , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0044-59672005000200004
Abstract: this article aimed to describe the subsistence fisheries of traditional populations of three ethnic groups, one ashaninka and two kaxinawá, lying on the banks of the river breu. initially, monitors were trained to fill logbooks with data from fisheries of the villages during an annual cycle (august/1995 august/1996). based on these data, it was realized an inventory of the most common fish species caught as well as one about the fishing environment. the following results were obtained: i) indians prefer to use pools, locally known as "po?os", for fishing; ii) the most common caught species are the "mandis" (35%, pimelodidae), armored catfishes (loricariidae), specially hypostomus sp. (25%), the "curimatá" (9%, prochilodus sp.) and the "saburus" (8%, curimatidae), among others; iii) the fishing gears that lead to a high rate of fishing are the native "tingui", nets and bow and arrows; iv) fisheries are more intensive during summer; v) the fishing effort and their associated factors statistically significant in predicting the catches in the indian reserve were f1 = number of fishermen, f2 = (number of fishermen*total time devoted to fishing), f3 = [(number of fishermen)*(total time devoted to fishing)-(the time displacement)] and the factor villages and fishing gears; vi) although almost all the fisheries are done by walking to the fishing places, catches increase when paddle boats are used; and vii) the most active fishermen belong to kaxinawá tribe.
Política pública educacional e sua dimens?o internacional: abordagens teóricas
Amaral, Marcelo Parreira do;
Educa??o e Pesquisa , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-97022010000400004
Abstract: the international dimension of education policies has been widely discussed in the last couple of years. this article argues that the activities of international agents involved in education policy formulation cannot be entirely and exclusively understood from a national perspective and, thus, should be studied as a discrete level of analysis. questioning how we might best conceptualize this field of study, this paper presents three theoretical approaches - neoinstitutionalism/isomorphism, externalization, and the international regime theory. the focus here is laid on the analysis of international education policy based on international regime theory.
Mulheres, imprensa e higiene: a medicaliza??o do parto na Bahia (1910-1927)
Amaral, Marivaldo Cruz do;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702008000400003
Abstract: the article discusses the role played by the lay press in disseminating the hygienist agenda in the city of salvador, bahia, in the early twentieth century, when journalists were writing about medicalized birth and the new standards of attention to the female body and to newborns. the climério de oliveira maternity hospital enjoyed the unrestricted support of the press, which went out of its way to portray the facility as ideal for hospital births.
"Rêve parisien" em seqüência literária
Amaral, Gloria Carneiro do;
Alea : Estudos Neolatinos , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-106X2007000200011
Abstract: this text develops the analysis of the poem "parisien dream", from baudelaire?s flowers of evil, in its relationship with "the slope of reverie" by victor hugo, as a forerunner of some prose poems extracted from rimbaud?s illuminations, which also deal with the team of the city.

Abstract: this paper reports the results of some studies made by means of photointerpretation about coffee plantations located in the county of campinas. the number of plants was estimated and their distribution by type of soils, age and practice of planting. for this purpose aerial photographs were used, taken in june of 1962 with an approximate scale of 1:25.000. the results obtained showed a total of 1,953,000 coffee plants occupying an area of 1,697 ha.
Changes in aggregate form, size and flexibility along phase sequences in lyotropic liquid crystals
Amaral, Lia Queiroz do;
Brazilian Journal of Physics , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-97332002000300014
Abstract: a comparison is made between existing theories for self-assembling systems and experimental phase diagrams of complex systems made up of amphiphile/water/additives, with emphasis on phase transitions by changes in concentration. evidence for different types of hexagonal (h) phases, in systems with detergent and lipid amphiphiles, are reviewed. it is shown that characteristics of the h phase and of the phase sequence (cubic phases with lipids and nematic phases with detergents) are revealed through the exponent defining the variation of the hexagonal parameter with amphiphile concentration. emphasis is also given to results obtained in the ternary system sodium dodecyl (lauryl) sulfate / water / decanol, which exhibits the phase sequence isotropic (i) - h - nematic cylindrical (nc) { [nematic biaxial (nb)] - nematic discotic (nd) - lamellar (l), with co-surfactant addition. existing theories for self-assembling systems of rigid and exible rods predict the phase sequence i - (nc) -h asa function of increased particle volume fraction up, with a triple point separating i - h and i - nc - h phase sequences. possible reasons for the non-trivial experimental i -h - nc inversion in phase sequence are discussed. a complex path through the phase diagram is able to explain the experimental results in terms of changes in micellar growth and exibility induced by the co-surfactant. the role of the surfactant parameter, that expresses the curvature of the polar-apolar interfaces, explains much of the observed behavior, including the nc - nd transition with increase in decanol / amphiphile molar ratio.
ética, moral e civismo: difícil consenso
Amaral, Daniela Patti do;
Cadernos de Pesquisa , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-15742007000200007
Abstract: discussions around the concept of ethics, moral and civism have been and still are present in the educational field, either through disciplines such as education, moral and civics education, brazilian social and political organization, studies of brazilian problems, either through religious education or, more recently, through the adoption of transversal themes. between 1997 and 2006, 13 proposals were presented by congressmen to reintroduce in schools studies of moral education and civics or to introduce a discipline that encompasses ethics and citizenship, seeking to restore values that have supposedly been lost by society. a research about these goals, their proponents and the rationales supporting them has been made. it tried to show the problems that the ambiguity in the congressmen's discourse and political practices bring to the area, also discussing the difficulties to reach a consensus over the values to be reached.
