Cruise Control System Based on Joint Simulation of CarSim and Simulink  [PDF]

Abstract:
In order to solve the difficulty of the driver’s continuous steering project in the FSEC, the research on the cruise control system based on the fuzzy PID control is carried for assisting the driver’s operation. Firstly, the input and output of fuzzy control is determined, and the fuzzy rule table is established to complete the design of fuzzy PID control system. Secondly, the fuzzy controller is established in MATLAB, and the fuzzy PID model is built in Simulink. After the creation of the FSEC racing car model and the track model in the CarSim, the joint simulation of CarSim and Simulink is carried out. Simulation results show that the racing car equipped with the cruise control system based on fuzzy PID control finishes the project faster than the unused car, and the vehicle speed is more stable.
An endpoint damage oriented model for life cycle environmental impact assessment of buildings in China

Abstract: The midpoint impact assessment methodology and several weighting methods that are currently used by most building Life cycle assessment (LCA) researchers in China, still have some shortcomings. In order to make the evaluation results have better temporal and spatial applicability, the endpoint impact assessment methodology was adopted in this paper. Based on the endpoint damage oriented concept, four endpoints of resource exhaustion, energy exhaustion, human health damage and ecosystem damage were selected according to the situation of China and the specialties of the building industry. Subsequently the formula for calculating each endpoint, the background value for normalization and the weighting factors were defined. Following that, an endpoint damage oriented model to evaluate the life cycle environmental impact of buildings in China was established. This model can produce an integrated indicator for environmental impact, and consequently provides references for directing the sustainable building design.
Use of Thiopurines and Risk of Colorectal Neoplasia in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract: Objective Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is commonly treated with thiopurines such as azathioprine and mercaptopurine for the maintenance of remission. Studies examining chemopreventive of these medications on colorectal neoplasm in IBD patients have yielded conflicting results. We performed a meta-analysis to assess the role of thiopurines for this indication. Methods We performed a systematic search of PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE and Cochrane to identify studies reporting colorectal neoplasm from IBD patients treated with thiopurines and conducted a meta-analysis of pooled relative risk (RR) using the random effects model. Results Nine case-control and ten cohort studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria. The use of thiopurines was associated with a statistically significant decreased incidence of colorectal neoplasm (summary RR=0.71, 95% CI=0.54–0.94, p=0.017), even after adjustment for duration and extent of the disease, but there was high heterogeneity among studies (I2=68.0%, p<0.001). The RR of advanced neoplasm (high-grade dysplasia and cancer) was 0.72 (95%CI=0.50–1.03, p=0.070) and that of cancer was 0.70 (95% CI=0.46–1.09, p=0.111) for thiopurine-treated patients. New pulsar limit on local Lorentz invariance violation of gravity in the standard-model extension

Abstract: In the pure-gravity sector of the minimal standard-model extension, nine Lorentz-violating coefficients of a vacuum-condensed tensor field describe dominant observable deviations from general relativity, out of which eight were already severely constrained by precision experiments with lunar laser ranging, atom interferometry, and pulsars. However, the time-time component of the tensor field, $\bar s^{\rm TT}$, dose not enter into these experiments, and was only very recently constrained by Gravity Probe B. Here we propose a novel idea of using the Lorentz boost between different frames to mix different components of the tensor field, and thereby obtain a stringent limit of $\bar s^{\rm TT}$ from binary pulsars. We perform various tests with the state-of-the-art white dwarf optical spectroscopy and pulsar radio timing observations, in order to get new robust limits of $\bar s^{\rm TT}$. With the isotropic cosmic microwave background as a preferred frame, we get $|\bar s^{\rm TT}| < 1.6 \times 10^{-5}$ (95\% CL), and without assuming the existence of a preferred frame, we get $|\bar s^{\rm TT}| < 2.8 \times 10^{-4}$ (95\% CL). These two limits are respectively about 500 times and 30 times better than the current best limit.
Tests of local Lorentz invariance violation of gravity in the standard model extension with pulsars

Abstract: Standard-model extension (SME) is an effective field theory introducing all possible Lorentz-violating (LV) operators to the standard model (SM) and general relativity (GR). In the pure-gravity sector of minimal SME (mSME), nine coefficients describe dominant observable deviations from GR. We systematically implemented twenty-seven tests from thirteen pulsar systems to tightly constrain eight linear combinations of these coefficients with extensive Monte Carlo simulations. It constitutes the first detailed and systematic test of the pure-gravity sector of mSME with the state-of-the-art pulsar observations. No deviation from GR was detected. The limits of LV coefficients are expressed in the canonical Sun-centered celestial-equatorial frame for convenience of further studies. They are all improved by significant factors of tens to hundreds with existing ones. As a consequence, Einstein's equivalence principle is verified substantially further by pulsar experiments in terms of local Lorentz invariance in gravity.
Mapping of genetic modifiers of Plcd1 in scant hair mice (snthr 1Bao )

Abstract: The scant hair mutant mouse (locus symbol: snthr 1Bao ) is a recessive mutation that originated in an ethylnitrosourea chemical carcinogenesis study using the DBA/2J inbred strain. The gene responsible for the mutation was previously determined to be phospholipase C, delta 1 (Plcd1; mutant allele symbol Plcd1 snthr1Bao ). To map the modifiers of Plcd1, an intercross (DBA/2J-snthr 1Bao /snthr 1Bao × C57BL/6J+/+) was conducted. The F2 mutant progeny exhibited a variety of alopecia phenotypes; all F2 mutants (n=507) were classified into 3 groups (mild, moderate, and severe alopecia) and genotyped based on 96 microsatellites. A major QTL was identified on mouse chromosome (mChr) 15 at 12 cM with an LOD score greater than 7 (P < 0.0001). Three minor QTLs were detected on mChr 2, 5, and 7 at 40, 84 and 48 cM, respectively. The QTLs on mChr 7 and 15 were associated with minor alopecia while the QTLs on mChr 2 and 5 were associated with moderate to severe alopecia. No antagonistic or synergistic effects among or between the 4 QTLs were found. Integrating the functions of the 4 potential regulatory QTLs and mutant Plcd1 snthr1Bao , we found that these QTLs might contribute to variations of scant hair severity by altering the Ca2+ signal pathways in mouse skin.
Expression and function of heregulin-α and its receptors in the mouse mammary gland

Abstract: Heregulin-α (HRGα) is a cytokine secreted by the mammary mesenchyme, adjacent to lobuloalveolar structures. To understand the role of HRGα and its receptors in mammary glands, and the underlying mechanisms, we performed this study to determine the expression and localization of HRGα and its receptors ErbB2 and ErbB3. We also determined the role of HRGα in the development of mammary glands, β-casein expression and secretion, Rab3A protein expression and the phosphorylation of HRGα signaling molecules using confocal laser scanning microscopy, tissue culture, capillary electrophoresis, Western blotting and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. We found that a peak was on pregnancy day 15. Changes of ErbB2 and ErbB3 expression were positively and linearly correlated with HRGα, indicating that HRGα positively regulates ErbB2 and ErbB3 expression. During pregnancy, HRGα enhanced the phosphorylation of STAT5, p42/p44, p38, PKC and Rab3A protein expression, stimulated the proliferation and differentiation of the ductal epithelial cells of mammary glands, and increased and maintained the expression and secretion of β-casein. During lactation, HRGα enhanced the phosphorylation of STAT5 and p38, inhibited the phosphorylation of PKC and Rab3A protein expression, maintained the morphology of the mammary glands and increased the secretion of lactoprotein to reduce the expression of β-casein in mammary epithelial cells. During involution, HRGα induced the phosphorylation of STAT3 and Rab3A protein expression, and inhibited the phosphorylation of PKC to stimulate the degeneration of mammary epithelial cells. It also inhibited the secretion of β-casein, resulting in increased levels of β-casein in mammary epithelial cells.
New tests of local Lorentz invariance of gravity with small-eccentricity binary pulsars

Abstract: In the post-Newtonian parametrization of semi-conservative gravity theories, local Lorentz invariance (LLI) violation is characterized by two parameters, alpha_1 and alpha_2. In binary pulsars the isotropic violation of LLI in the gravitational sector leads to characteristic preferred frame effects (PFEs) in the orbital dynamics, if the barycenter of the binary is moving relative to the preferred frame with a velocity w. For small-eccentricity binaries, the effects induced by alpha_1 and alpha_2 decouple, and can therefore be tested independently. We use recent timing results of two compact pulsar-white dwarf binaries with known 3D velocity, PSRs J1012+5307 and J1738+0333, to constrain PFEs for strongly self-gravitating bodies. We derive a limit |alpha_2| < 1.8e-4 (95% CL), which is the most constraining limit for strongly self-gravitating systems up to now. Concerning alpha_1, we propose a new, robust method to constrain this parameter. Our most conservative result, alpha_1 = -0.4^{+3.7}_{-3.1} e-5 (95% CL) from PSR J1738+0333, constitutes a significant improvement compared to current most stringent limits obtained both in Solar system and binary pulsar tests. We also derive corresponding limits for alpha_1 and alpha_2 for a preferred frame that is at rest with respect to our Galaxy, and preferred frames that locally co-move with the rotation of our Galaxy.
