Abstract: china's rise to the role of global economic and political power has been at the center of recent academic and political debates. in this paper we analyze the impact that this has had on brazil. we look at bi-lateral trade and standards of cyclical convergence for the two economies, considering a broader analysis of the foreign competitiveness of the brazilian economy. on this basis, we seek to map out the impact that china's rise to the position of global power may have on brazil. we place emphasis on economic dimensions, international trade in particular. our premises conceive of the process of growth and internationalization of the chinese economy as generating a stimulus capable of influencing the potentials of brazilian development over the next few decades. our arguments fall into three sections: (i) an attempt at presenting a panoramic view of chinese ascendance, against the backdrop of the dynamics of "major divergence"; (ii) an overview of the current situation of the chinese economy; (iii) analysis of the effects of its increasing internationalization on the world economy, with emphasis on the specific cases of south america and brazil. we conclude by exploring some of the normative implications of our results.
Cunha, André Moreira;
Revista de Economia Política , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-31572006000400001
Abstract: after sixty years, the bretton woods agreement continuous to be a reference for the debates concerning institutional organization of the international monetary system. this paper compares some features of the arrangements that have emerged in that context with the recent wave of institutional reforms in the international financial architecture. we explore some arguments suggesting that, in an instable financial environment, is possible to envisage a strong rationality in strategies for emerging economies associated with a more active capital flows and exchange rate management. apparently, those strategies are not dissimilar to the ones today's advanced countries had used in bretton woods era.

The imbalance between oxidant molecules and antioxidant agents is characterized as oxidative stress (OS) and may lead to severe damage to the organism. In contrast, the physical training of aerobic and resistive character promotes increases of the antioxidant response, resulting in a balance and/or minimizing damage. Therefore, the objective of the study is to verify the effect of aerobic training, resistive training and concurrent training on oxidative stress of Wistar rats. Methods: To perform the experiment, 40 Wistar rats were subjected to eight weeks of training. The animals were distributed into 4 different groups: control, aerobic, resistive and concurrent (combination of aerobic and resistive protocols in the same section) an h/day, five days/week, for eight weeks. At the end of the experimental period: the antioxidant enzymes (catalase, glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase), biomarkers of oxidative stress (TBARs and H2O2) as well as the activity of reduced and oxidized glutathione were analyzed. Results: Regarding the markers, TBARs and H2O2 trainings were not effective in promoting significant reduction. In contrast, the three training protocols caused an increase in SOD and GSH-GPx enzymes. Conclusion: Therefore, we concluded that both training protocols promoted benefit to the organism, because they caused the increase of antioxidant enzymes without disturbance in the pro-oxidant markers.

This paper aims at presenting an overview of the researches about Digital Information and Communication Technologies (DICT) and English teacher education carried in Applied Linguistics in Brazil from 2000 to 2009. In order to do so, a bibliographical search was carried out at the CAPES database of theses and dissertations according to some key words related to this subject. The results point out a number of varied studies developed in this field with different focus such as: public policies and its implementation, use of digital tools in pre and in service teacher education, appropriation of digital tools by teachers into their work, believes and representations concerning the use of digital tools, among others. We hope to contribute to those who further wish to develop more studies under the theme English teacher education and DICT.
Stochastically Perturbed Chains of Variable Memory

Mathematics , 2013,
Abstract: In this paper, we study inference for chains of variable order under two distinct contamination regimes. Consider we have a chain of variable memory on a finite alphabet containing zero. At each instant of time an independent coin is flipped and if it turns head a contamination occurs. In the first regime a zero is read independent of the value of the chain. In the second regime, the value of another chain of variable memory is observed instead of the original one. Our results state that the difference between the transition probabilities of the original process and the corresponding ones of the contaminated process may be bounded above uniformly. Moreover, if the contamination probability is small enough, using a version of the Context algorithm we are able to recover the context tree of the original process through a contaminated sample.
Insights into the Role of Extracellular Polysaccharides in Burkholderia Adaptation to Different Environments

Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology , 2011, DOI: 10.3389/fcimb.2011.00016
Abstract: The genus Burkholderia comprises more than 60 species able to adapt to a wide range of environments such as soil and water, and also colonize and infect plants and animals. They have large genomes with multiple replicons and high gene number, allowing these bacteria to thrive in very different niches. Among the properties of bacteria from the genus Burkholderia is the ability to produce several types of exopolysaccharides (EPSs). The most common one, cepacian, is produced by the majority of the strains examined irrespective of whether or not they belong to the Burkholderia cepacia complex (Bcc). Cepacian biosynthesis proceeds by a Wzy-dependent mechanism, and some of the B. cepacia exopolysaccharide (Bce) proteins have been functionally characterized. In vitro studies showed that cepacian protects bacterial cells challenged with external stresses. Regarding virulence, bacterial cells with the ability to produce EPS are more virulent in several animal models of infection than their isogenic non-producing mutants. Although the production of EPS within the lungs of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients has not been demonstrated, the in vitro assessment of the mucoid phenotype in serial Bcc isolates from CF patients colonized for several years showed that mucoid to non-mucoid transitions are relatively frequent. This morphotype variation can be induced under laboratory conditions by exposing cells to stress such as high antibiotic concentration. Clonal isolates where mucoid to non-mucoid transition had occurred showed that during lung infection, genomic rearrangements, and mutations had taken place. Other phenotypic changes include variations in motility, chemotaxis, biofilm formation, bacterial survival rate under nutrient starvation and virulence. In this review, we summarize major findings related to EPS biosynthesis by Burkholderia and the implications in broader regulatory mechanisms important for cell adaptation to the different niches colonized by these bacteria.
Sphaerodorids (Polychaeta, Sphaerodoridae) from the continental margin off NW Iberian Peninsula, with first record of Sphaerodoropsis sibuetae and S. amoureuxi since original description

Graellsia , 2011,
Abstract: Knowledge of the Sphaerodoridae (Annelida, Polychaeta) is still scarce in many parts of the world, including deep-sea waters around the Iberian Peninsula. Study of samples collected between 100-2000 m depth during several oceanographic expeditions done at the Galician Continental Margin (NW Iberian Peninsula) from 2003 to 2009 revealed the presence of six species of sphaerodorid polychaetes. Two species are reported for the first time since the original description, namely Sphaerodoropsis sibuetae Desbruyères, 1980 and S. amoureuxi Aguirrezabalaga & Ceberio, 2005; these records extend the known distribution of these species to the West of the Atlantic Ocean. All species collected are reported including distribution and ecological data as well as a key to all species known from the Iberian Peninsula.

Abstract: Since the initial series, the study of grammatical rules are introduced. In this process, each year, the student is taken to review all that has he already studied in previous series on the grammatical content and advance learning other content. We reflect, then, if the student, after years of schooling, finds it difficult to use what they learned in English classes, what are these classes used for ? This paper aims to demonstrate that in the Portuguese language classes is the key that was developed sense of analysis and interpretation of the facts of language and the relation between words, statements and periods within an oral or written text. These elements represent a demonstration that the reader actually has a conscious mastery of the mechanisms of their language and thus understand what they read.

Abstract: in this paper we look for the historical genesis of the argentine crisis. we argue that the economic liberalization model, implicit of the convertibility plan, has its roots in establishment of the agro-exporting economy on which, between the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century, a prosperous country was formed. on the other hand, the 1990 decade introduced a social heterogeneity that holds no relation to the main heritage of the previous liberal model.

Abstract: the article analyses 'approaches', coming from various fields of study that are concerned with the teacher's knowledge base, with a view to making a contribution to the notion of "activity"; what it can offer to those interested in understanding the scope of the work carried out by teachers and how this understanding can help them to improve their work. the aim is to elaborate, in this fashion, a theoretical basis for exploring the range of 'understandings' possessed by the teacher, but with no pretension of exhausting the universe of existing questions, but rather, taking the investigation forwards, indicating the appropriate path for unpackaging the problems encountered. firstly, the approaches found in the research on teachers' knowledge, are presented; secondly, the objective is to highlight an aspect that may be implicit, yet recurrent, in parts of this research. lastly, contributions are made from ergonomics, of a francophone base using an approach for the work that is 'ergo'-logical (anotherwords, the answer is implicit in the question) providing a perspective that emphasizes the importance of tackling the work from the notion of 'activity'. such an approach - we wager - when based on a foundation of work that takes 'activity' as its focus, will increase inovative forms of knowledge production and lead to inovative ways of carrying out research into education, research that will make teachers the focal point, focusing on their work and their knowledge base.
