A Questionnaire Analysis of the Asch Experiment without Using Confederates  [PDF]

Abstract:

Without using confederates, Mori and Arai (2010) replicated the Asch results with 40 male and 64 female Japanese undergraduates in same-sex groups of four. One from each foursome wore a different type of polarizing sunglasses so that he/she observed the standard lines differently form the other three participants, who played the same role as the majority in the Asch experiments. As expected, the minority participants tended to conform to the majority. There was a gender difference: the female minority participants conformed, but the males did not. The present study reported the qualitative findings from analysis of the responses on a questionnaire administered in the Mori and Arai experiments. It revealed that female participants who conformed more than the males were less confident and felt more isolated and anxious than the males.

Abstract: this paper analyzes the patent examination and litigation process in terms of a simple perfect bayesian equilibrium model, and interprets the results in line with real pro-patent trends in the us and other countries. each country's pro-patent policy option is different from the other because of reflecting its own path-dependent patent situation. that is, when a country adopts an easy patent policy (a pro-patent policy), firms in the country gain larger payoffs in the short term. hence, every country seeks to adopt an easy patent policy. however, the easy patent policy undermines the true invention incentive. in this situation, it is difficult for any country to escape the problem, depending on the historical inertia.
Effective potential and Goldstone bosons in de Sitter space

Abstract: We investigate nonperturbative infrared effects for the O(N) linear sigma model in de Sitter space using the two-particle irreducible effective action at the Hartree truncation level. This approximation resums the infinite series of so-called superdaisy diagrams. For the proper treatment of ultraviolet divergences, we first study the renormalization of this approximation on a general curved background. Then, we calculate radiatively corrected masses and the effective potential. As a result, spontaneous symmetry breaking is possible, on the other hand, the Goldstone modes acquire a positive definite mass term due to the screening effects of interaction. Possible infrared divergence is self-regulated by the mass term. Furthermore, there is a symmetry restoring phase transition as a function of the Hubble parameter. In our approximation, the phase transition is of first order.

Abstract: A generalized version of the so-called chiral quark soliton model (CQSM) in nuclear physics is introduced. The Hamiltonian of the generalized CQSM is given by a Dirac type operator with a mass term being an operator-valued function. Some mathematically rigorous results on the model are reported. The subjects included are: (i) supersymmetric structure; (ii) spectral properties; (iii) symmetry reduction; (iv) a unitarily equivalent model.

Abstract: O Grupo Barreiras é uma unidade que ocorre ao longo da faixa costeira do Brasil, desde o Estado do Amapá até o Rio deJaneiro, caracterizando-se pela ocorrência quase contínua e pela regularidade geomorfológica. Sua origem tem sido motivo demuitas discuss es. Tradicionalmente, a unidade vinha sendo considerada como de origem continental, mas trabalhos recentesvêm mostrando evidências irrefutáveis de influência marinha, tanto de natureza paleontológica, como sedimentológica. Adata o palinológica e sua correla o com as unidades litoestratigráficas coevas das partes submersas das bacias da margemcontinental brasileira e das outras partes do planeta permitiram um estudo integrado sob a luz da Estratigrafia de Seqüências.Essa análise estratigráfica integrada permitiu relacionar a origem do Grupo Barreiras com a eleva o eustática global que teveseu máximo na parte média do Mioceno, mais precisamente no intervalo do Burdigaliano ao Serravaliano (12 – 20 Ma). Asedimenta o do Barreiras lato sensu sofreu uma interrup o no Tortoniano (início do Neomioceno), quando houve umrebaixamento eustático global que ocasionou um extenso evento erosivo nas áreas emersas e a forma o de cunhas fortementeprogradantes na por o submersa das bacias submersas (offshore). Com a retomada da subida eustática no Plioceno (Zancleano,4 – 5 Ma), depositou-se o segundo ciclo (Barreiras Superior). A eros o e o retrabalhamento do Grupo Barreiras no Quaternáriodevem ter sido responsáveis, em parte, pela atual configura o da plataforma continental.

Abstract: Shakespeare and his colleagues built the Globe Theatre in 1599 with the wooden materials removed from the Theatre at Shoreditch. The first play performed on the stage of the newly built Globe is said to be Henry V. At the beginning of this history play, Chorus appears and asks the audience to exercise their imagination, as there is nothing in ‘this Wooden O’ but Shakespeare’s words, words, words. In other words, Shakespeare’s poetry is all on the stage of the Globe with only sunshine as natural stage lighting. Without sunshine, their performances were impossible. The sun is everything while the play is on, and nothing when the play is done. Moreover the Globe itself, like a Japanese Noh stage, was a bare stage without decorative or realistic stage settings. Method for Estimation of Aerosol Parameters Based on Ground Based Atmospheric Polarization Irradiance Measurements

Abstract: Method for aerosol refractive index estimation with ground based polarization measurement data is proposed. The proposed method uses a dependency of refractive index on p and s polarized down welling solar diffuse irradiance. It is much easy to measure p and s polarized irradiance on the ground with a portable measuring instrument rather than solar direct, diffuse and aureole measurements. Through theoretical and simulation studies, it is found that the proposed method show a good estimation accuracy of refractive index using measured down welling p and s polarized irradiance data with a measuring instrument pointing to the direction which is perpendicular to the sun in the principal plane. Field experimental results also show a validity of the proposed method in comparison to the estimated results from the conventional method with solar direct, diffuse and aureole measurement data.
Evaluation of Regressive Analysis Based Sea Surface Temperature Estimation Accuracy with NCEP/GDAS Data

Abstract: In order to evaluate the skin surface temperature (SSST) estimation accuracy with MODIS data, 84 of MODIS scenes together with the match-up data of NCEP/GDAS are used. Through regressive analysis, it is found that 0.305 to 0.417 K of RMSE can be achieved. Furthermore, it also is found that band 29 is effective for atmospheric correction (30.6 to 38.8% of estimation accuracy improvement). If single coefficient set for the regressive equation is used for all the cases, SSST estimation accuracy is around 1.969 K so that the specific coefficient set for the five different cases have to be set.
