Entomología y Vectores , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0328-03812005000200002
Abstract: with the aim of studing the composition of chironomidae fauna and other aquatic insects of s?o josé dos cordeiros dam, in s?o josé dos cordeiros -pb (07o 23's e 36o 49'w), bimonthly qualitative samples were colected between july/1998 and july/1999. the insect fauna was sampled randomly with one hand net of 0.50 mm mesh size. the material collected was fixed in formol 10%, the triagem was made through illuminated tray and for identification was used a stereomicroscope. some physical and chemical water parameters were determined to correlated with biological data. aedokritus was the dominating and more frequent genera of chironomidae in mud of dam, showing the maximum abundance of 94.47% in january/99. on the other hand dicrotendipes sp3 was only found in july/98 (12.50% of the total aquatic insects fauna). beyond of chironomidae, the occurrence of ceratopogonidae (diptera), gomphidae (odonata), coleoptera and campsurus sp. (polymitarcyidae, ephemeroptera) was observed. the abundance of all chironomidae genera was significantly corraleted with the organic matter of sediment. during the period of september/98 to january/99 was observed an increase in the percentual organic matter in sediment that corresponded to the increase in the abundance of aedokritus sp. and a consequently decrease in the abundance of gomphidae. therefore, changing in physical and chemical conditions of water mainly associated to the increase in organic matter may produce a consequently decrease in the biomass of the aquatic insects.

Journal of Applied Oral Science , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-77572010000500017
Abstract: abstract objective: the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of simulated periodontal ligament (spdl) on custom cast dowel and core removal by ultrasonic vibration. material and methods: thirty-two human maxillary canines were included in resin cylinders with or without spdl made from polyether impression material. in order to allow tensile testing, the roots included in resin cylinders with spdl were fixed to cylinders with two stainless steel wires. post-holes were prepared by standardizing the length at 8 mm and root canal impressions were made with self-cured resin acrylic. cast dowel and core sets were fabricated and luted with panavia f resin cement. half of the samples were submitted to ultrasonic vibration before the tensile test. data were analyzed statistically by two-way anova and tukey's post-hoc tests (p<0.05). results: the ultrasonic vibration reduced the tensile strength of the samples directly included in resin cylinders. there was no difference between the values, whether or not ultrasonic vibration was used, when the pdl was simulated. however, the presence of spdl affected the tensile strength values even when no ultrasonic vibration was applied. conclusion: simulation of pdl has an effect on both ultrasonic vibration and tensile testing.

Psychology (PSYCH) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2014.57088
Abstract:

In this research we aimed to study how couples perceive their marital relationships. More specifically, our goal was to ascertain the way middle class couples, living in Brazil, evaluate the quality of their current marital relationships. 100 cohabiting couples were asked to fulfill the Marriage and Relationship Questionnaire (MARQ), and we found that 86% lived together for 12.62 years on average and declared to be satisfied with their relationship. Jealousy, partnership and love were found to be the most relevant factors for marital satisfaction, thereby reaffirming the Evolutionary Psychology hypotheses about the omnipresence of love and jealousy as elements of cohesion in humans. Selection for those factors may have occurred from early mankind on, particularly with regard to the establishment and maintenance of affective partnerships.

Abstract:

Sexual health is considered of fundamental importance in people’s lives. Since it is determined by physiological, psychological and social factors, the investigations of these aspects are relevant to full comprehension of this phenomenon. Endocrinological conditions, as overweighed and normal body mass indexes were addressed as the main factors in women’ sexual function, which can affect level of sexual hormones; and as a consequence, lead to sexual dysfunction. Body mass index of 370 women were analyzed to indentify the implications in their sexual life, using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) inventory, with six domains that assess different aspects of women’ sexual activity and satisfaction. The main results show no statistical differences between normal and overweighed body mass index. However, there were significant differences between different phases of life as Reproductive, Perimenopause, and Postmenopause women, in which the youngsters showed better FSFI scores, better sexual function, than the older ones. Also, significant differences were found when time of marriage was taken into account, the longer the relationship, the worse the sexual function. We concluded that not only endocrinological variables may explain the sexual function in women, but also psychosocial variables as age, and time and quality of their relationships.

Abstract: cytogenetic studies were carried out in three populations of bryconamericus aff. iheringii from two hydrographic systems of the paranapanema and ivaí rivers, separated by a watershed, both belonging to the upper paraná river basin. specimens had a constant diploid number 2n = 52 chromosomes. however, three karyotype formulae were identified in the three populations: b. aff. iheringii from the maringá stream had 12m+18sm+8st+14a (fn = 90); specimens from keller river showed 8m+28sm+6st+10a (fn = 94) and specimens from the tatupeba stream had 8m+20sm+8st+16a (fn = 88). nucleolar organizer regions (nors) were identified by silver nitrate staining and fluorescent in situ hybridization (fish) with an 18s rdna probe. specimens from tatupeba stream had a simple nor system located in a terminal position of the short arm of a pair of large submetacentric chromosomes. ag-nor and fish methodologies revealed multiple nors in specimens of the maringá stream and keller river. differences in chromosome structure and in nor patterns in the three populations of b. aff. iheringii revealed fixed evolutionary chromosome divergence. aspects related to karyotypic variations and to geographic isolation of these populations are discussed.
Spatial variability of soil CO2 emission in different topographic positions
Brito, Liziane de Figueiredo;Marques Júnior, José;Pereira, Gener Tadeu;La Scala Junior, Newton;
Bragantia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87052010000500004
Abstract: the spatial variability of soil co2 emission is controlled by several properties related to the production and transport of co2 inside the soil. considering that soil properties are also influenced by topography, the objective of this work was to investigate the spatial variability of soil co2 emission in three different topographic positions in an area cultivated with sugarcane, just after mechanical harvest. one location was selected on a concave-shaped form and two others on linear-shaped form (in back-slope and foot-slope). three grids were installed, one in each location, containing 69 points and measuring 90 x 90 m each. the spatial variability of soil co2 emission was characterized by means of semivariance. spatial variability models derived from soil co2 emission were exponential in the concave location while spherical models fitted better in the linear shaped areas. the degree of spatial dependence was moderate in all cases and the range of spatial dependence for the co2 emission in the concave area was 44.5 m, higher than the mean value obtained for the linear shaped areas (20.65 m). the spatial distribution maps of soil co2 emission indicate a higher discontinuity of emission in the linear form when compared to the concave form.
