Polio in Italy
Fantini,Bernardino;
Dynamis , 2012,
Abstract: the history of polio in italy is relatively short because the particular social and demographic history of the country has actually compressed the most dramatic history of the polio epidemic into only 40 years, from the first severe epidemic just before world war ii to the early 1980s, when the epidemic vanished thanks to an effective and country-wide vaccination campaign. the epidemic, however, had a formidable impact on medicine, public health, social attitudes and culture. an analysis of this case study can illustrate the impact of an epidemic of a severe disease on individual and collective life, and at the same time the efficacy of public health measures against it, and the importance of the social structure, state and private, in coping with the consequences of the epidemics. in this period, the attitude towards the handicapped changed from stigma and isolation to social integration, thanks especially to the changes in health legislation, social action and the initiatives of the patient' associations.
The Asset Liability Management in Italian Public Entities
G. Fantini
Journal of Economics, Business and Management , 2014, DOI: 10.7763/joebm.2014.v2.118
Abstract: Modern management of Public Entities is turning increasily to Asset Liability Management. This management can be effectively realized by a set of operations that can be defined as "Debt Restructuring". Financial innovative instruments are playing an increasing role with respect to current debt or will be activated in the near future. Derivatives – such as swaps – and structured finance transactions – such as securitization and project finance –are of considerable importance. The paper analyses the economic effects produced in their accounts and provides useful insights for future administrative regulations regarding acceptable operation for PE.
Linear baroclinic instability in the presence of heat inflow from the lower boundary
M. Fantini
Annales Geophysicae (ANGEO) , 2003,
Abstract: A linear Eady model with a parameterization of heat influx from the lower boundary is studied analytically in order to obtain the characteristics of baroclinic normal modes modified by this non-adiabatic source. The results display a secondary maximum of growth rate at high wave numbers and a range of absolutely unstable waves, thus suggesting that the property observed among mid-latitude explosive cyclones of being near-stationary in the phase of maximum growth may be captured by this representation of the air-sea energy exchange.
Camillo Benso Ballabio (1912 – 1984)
F. Fantini
Reumatismo , 2011, DOI: 10.4081/reumatismo.2004.286
Abstract: The author commemorates, in the 20th year since his death, Camillo Benso Ballabio, unforgettable figure of rheumatologist, renowned clinician, man of great culture. The most important stages of his life are described, by adding to the biographical sketches some quotations that confirm the intellectual depth of such a protagonist of the history of the Italian rheumatology.
Normalized Berkovich spaces and surface singularities
Lorenzo Fantini
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: We define normalized versions of Berkovich spaces over a trivially valued field $k$, obtained as quotients by the action of $\mathbb R_{>0}$ defined by rescaling semivaluations. We associate such a normalized space to any special formal $k$-scheme and prove an analogue of Raynaud's theorem, characterizing categorically the spaces obtained in this way. This construction yields a locally ringed $G$-topological space, which we prove to be locally isomorphic to a Berkovich space over the field $k((t))$ with a $t$-adic valuation. These spaces can be interpreted as non-archimedean models for the links of the singularities of $k$-varieties, and allow to study the birational geometry of $k$-varieties using techniques of non-archimedean geometry available only when working over a field with nontrivial valuation. In particular, we prove that the structure of the normalized non-archimedean links of surface singularities over an algebraically closed field $k$ is analogous to the structure of non-archimedean analytic curves over $k((t))$, and deduce a characterization of the log essential valuations, i.e. those valuations whose center on every log resolution of the given surface is a divisor.
Numerical study of two-dimensional moist symmetric instability
M. Fantini ,P. Malguzzi
Advances in Geosciences (ADGEO) , 2008,
Abstract: The 2-D version of the non-hydrostatic fully compressible model MOLOCH developed at ISAC-CNR was used in idealized set-up to study the start-up and finite amplitude evolution of symmetric instability. The unstable basic state was designed by numerical integration of the equation which defines saturated equivalent potential vorticity qe*. We present the structure and growth rates of the linear modes both for a supersaturated initial state ("super"-linear mode) and for a saturated one ("pseudo"-linear mode) and the modifications induced on the base state by their finite amplitude evolution.

Abstract:

Hospital clowns work worldwide as a health humanization resort, providing interplay with patients, family and staff. This type of activity varies greatly in terms of professionalism, accountability and artistic methods. Recently, some healthcare universities have introduced the clown language to undergraduates, aiming to train non-technical skills, often underrated in traditional healthcare teaching. Two 64-hour weekly hospital clown trainings were performed in a healthcare university in S?o Paulo, Brazil, in 2011 and 2012, with students from different undergraduate courses. The objective of this study was to assess the students’ perceptions about this training. Subjects were asked to answer an open-ended question about their experience during the training. Answers were analyzed following the thematic analysis principles. Five theme categories were found: 1) expectations about the training; 2) perceptions of developed skills; 3) difficulties, doubts and unquietness; 4) influences on social and academic settings; 5) clown concepts after the training. Students highlighted improvement of listening, sustaining eye contact and dealing with failure as important apprehended concepts. The training process was considered deep and serious, and generated questioning and doubts in the subjects. Students reported influences on their daily activities, namely relationship improvement with family, friends and patients and enhanced of oral presentations. The clown training exhibited a potential for professional attitude construction and reflected on the students’ lives, regarding development of interpersonal competencies.

Ro?a-de-toco: uso de recursos florestais e dinamica da paisagem rural no litoral de Santa Catarina
Siminski, Alexandre;Fantini, Alfredo Celso;
Ciência Rural , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-84782007000300014
Abstract: the secondary forests in the small farms of santa catarina state are traditionally used as a component of the slash-and-burn agriculture. the purpose of this study was to analyze the agricultural system in the municipality of s?o pedro de alcantara, on the coast zone of the state, using the qualitative research approach. the results showed that there was a reduction of the cultivated area in 65% of the farms in the last 10 years, the fallow period was reduced, and the rotation time of each field plot was shortened. the restrictions imposed by regulations on forest resources use have contributed to a change in the composition of the landscape of the study area, where a shrinkage of the area used for traditional agriculture in favor of a larger area of with secondary forests is evident. however, a simulation of the field plots rotation revealed that, from the point of view of the land availability, the continuity of the slash-and-burn agricultural system is still possible in the long run, especially under the subsistence farming.
