Production of Hydrogen: Photocatalytic Decomposition of Dimethyl Ether over Metal-Promoted TiO2 Catalysts  [PDF]
Gyula Halasi, Gábor Schubert, Frigyes Solymosi
American Journal of Analytical Chemistry (AJAC) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ajac.2014.58054
Abstract: The photo-induced vapor-phase decomposition of dimethyl ether was investigated on Pt metals deposited on pure and N-doped TiO2. Infrared spectroscopic measurements revealed that adsorption of dimethyl ether on TiO2 samples underwent partial dissociation to methoxy species. Illumination of the (CH3)2O-TiO2 and (CH3)2O-M/TiO2 systems led to the conversion of methoxy into adsorbed formate. In the case of metal-promoted TiO2 catalysts, CO bonded to the metals was also detected. Pure titania exhibited a very little photoactivity. Deposition of Pt metals on TiO2 markedly enhanced the extent of photocatalytic decomposition of dimethyl ether to give H2 and CO2 as the major products. A small amount of CO and methyl formate was also identified in the products. The most active metal was the Rh followed by Pd, Ir, Pt and Ru. When the bandgap of TiO2 was lowered by N-doping, the photocatalytic activity of metal/TiO2 catalysts appreciably increased. The effect of metals was explained by a better separation of charge carriers induced by illumination and by enhanced electronic interaction between metal nanoparticles and TiO2.
On directed local chromatic number, shift graphs, and Borsuk-like graphs
Gábor Simonyi,Gábor Tardos
Mathematics , 2009,
Abstract: We investigate the local chromatic number of shift graphs and prove that it is close to their chromatic number. This implies that the gap between the directed local chromatic number of an oriented graph and the local chromatic number of the underlying undirected graph can be arbitrarily large. We also investigate the minimum possible directed local chromatic number of oriented versions of ``topologically t-chromatic'' graphs. We show that this minimum for large enough t-chromatic Schrijver graphs and t-chromatic generalized Mycielski graphs of appropriate parameters is the upper integer part of t/4+1.
Sofic equivalence relations
Gábor Elek,Gábor Lippner
Mathematics , 2009,
Abstract: We introduce the notion of sofic measurable equivalence relations. Using them we prove that Connes' Embedding Conjecture as well as the Measurable Determinant Conjecture of L\"uck, Sauer and Wegner hold for treeable equivalence relations.
An analogue of the Szemeredi Regularity Lemma for bounded degree graphs
Gábor Elek,Gábor Lippner
Mathematics , 2008,
Abstract: We show that a sufficiently large graph of bounded degree can be decomposed into quasi-homogeneous pieces. The result can be viewed as a "finitarization" of the classical Farrell-Varadarajan Ergodic Decomposition Theorem.
Colorful subgraphs in Kneser-like graphs
Gábor Simonyi,Gábor Tardos
Mathematics , 2005,
Abstract: Combining Ky Fan's theorem with ideas of Greene and Matousek we prove a generalization of Dol'nikov's theorem. Using another variant of the Borsuk-Ulam theorem due to Bacon and Tucker, we also prove the presence of all possible completely multicolored t-vertex complete bipartite graphs in t-colored t-chromatic Kneser graphs and in several of their relatives. In particular, this implies a generalization of a recent result of G. Spencer and F. E. Su.
The Role of Stochastic Models in Interpreting the Origins of Biological Chirality
Gábor Lente
Symmetry , 2010, DOI: 10.3390/sym2020767
Abstract: This review summarizes recent stochastic modeling efforts in the theoretical research aimed at interpreting the origins of biological chirality. Stochastic kinetic models, especially those based on the continuous time discrete state approach, have great potential in modeling absolute asymmetric reactions, experimental examples of which have been reported in the past decade. An overview of the relevant mathematical background is given and several examples are presented to show how the significant numerical problems characteristic of the use of stochastic models can be overcome by non-trivial, but elementary algebra. In these stochastic models, a particulate view of matter is used rather than the concentration-based view of traditional chemical kinetics using continuous functions to describe the properties system. This has the advantage of giving adequate description of single-molecule events, which were probably important in the origin of biological chirality. The presented models can interpret and predict the random distribution of enantiomeric excess among repetitive experiments, which is the most striking feature of absolute asymmetric reactions. It is argued that the use of the stochastic kinetic approach should be much more widespread in the relevant literature.
Isotope research before Isotopy: George Hevesy's early radioactivity research in the Hungarian context
Palló,Gábor;
Dynamis , 2009, DOI: 10.4321/S0211-95362009000100008
Abstract: this paper presents a framework for the study of george hevesy's research in the 1910s by distinguishing two styles of radioactivity research: the analytical (as practices in manchester and vienna in some extent) and the natural historical styles (as practiced in hungary). georg hevesy's approach combined the two types. indeed, by studying hevesy's research in context, i show that the earliest applications of isotopes were born in parallel with the establishment of the isotope theory of matter.
Historia de la codificación del derecho civil en Hungría
Hamza,Gábor;
Revista de estudios histórico-jurídicos , 2008, DOI: 10.4067/S0716-54552008000100008
Abstract: this article is about the historic development of the codification of hungarian private law, mainly of civil law. it shows not only the initial mixed influence of the roman law and the german pandectists, but also their subsequent and gradual openness to other legal systems. the recurrent failures of the codification had contextual political and economic reasons. current private law, with hungary joining the eu, has received the contemporary influences in its design.
Ma'A Lexicon and Afro-Asiatic IV: Ma'A -
Gábor Takács
Lingua Posnaniensis , 2009, DOI: 10.2478/v10122-009-0008-8
Abstract: The paper represents part of a longer series that examines the lexical stock of the Ma'a language, an exotic Mischsprache combining a Bantu grammar with a basically Cushitic (henceforth, Afro-Asiatic) lexicon, from the standpoint of etymology. This part contains (mostly new) etymologies of Ma'a words with the initial lateral sibilant.
The Effect of the Amendments of the Public Education Act on the School Activity of Physical Education Teachers
Gábor Elbert
Physical Culture and Sport. Studies and Research , 2009, DOI: 10.2478/v10141-009-0010-4
Abstract: As a result of the legal regulations in the period after the 1989-1990 transition, teachers working in public education, in our case physical education teachers, were engaged in several activities which were not directly related to the competence of in-school educational work. Consequently, there has been a shift in their scope of activities. The author of this paper is interested in the experience of physical education teachers during the period. The objective of the paper is to reveal what effects such a comprehensive and permanent change had on the teaching of physical education in schools, and on the life of physical education teachers. In order to investigate the subject of research the analysis of legislative documents, in-depth interviews and the survey method were applied. The results show that in the period after the 1989-1990 transition, the work of teachers was not only hindered by the structural changes in accordance with educational legislation and the permanent amendment of documents, but the lack of consistency in pedagogical work as well. For the teachers taking part in the preparation of curricula, the extension of their activities resulted in a double workload. The decision that marks were replaced with textual evaluation in grade 1 of primary schools was not received positively on the part of physical education teachers. Based on the results it can be concluded that the efficient work of physical education teachers would be greatly assisted by more predictable legislation, which would ensure the possibility of planning in advance.
