Generating Net Forces from Backgrounds of Randomly Created Waves  [PDF]
Claude Gauthier
Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2014.516158
Abstract: We examine the possibility of generating net forces on concave isolated objects from backgrounds consisting of randomly created waves carrying momentum. This issue is examined first for waves at the surface of a liquid, and second for quantum vacuum electromagnetic waves, both in relation with a one-side-open rectangular structure whose interior embodies a large number of parallel reflecting plates. Using known results about the Casimir-like effect and the original Casimir effect for parallel plates, we explain why and how such rectangular hollow structures should feel net oriented forces. We briefly describe real systems that would allow testing these theoretical results.
Discretization and Interaction of Fields via the Classical Kaluza-Klein Theory  [PDF]
Doris LaChance, Claude Gauthier
Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2013.412199
Abstract:

We show how the metric of a five-dimensional hyperspace-time can be used to model the quantum nature of electromagnetic interactions. The space-time neighborhood of the point where such an interaction takes place bends according to the curl and the derivative of the local electromagnetic four-potential, both calculated in the direction of the latter. In this geometric setting, the presence of a non-gravitational field is needed to induce the discretization of any gravitational field. We also exploit two variants of the classical Kaluza-Klein five-dimensional theory to obtain coupled generalizations of Einsteins and Maxwells equations. The first variant involves an unspecified scalar field that may be related to the inflaton. The equations of the second variant show a direct interdependency of gravitation and electromagnetism that would emerge or be activated through the production of electromagnetic waves.

Hedging entry and exit decisions: activating and deactivating barrier options
Laurent Gauthier
Advances in Decision Sciences , 2002, DOI: 10.1155/s1173912602000044
Abstract: Abstract. Investment projects and businesses can be entered or exited at a cost, and the theory of real option teaches us how to find optimal activity levels that should trigger entry or exit. However, in practice, different managers or owners operate under different constraints and might apply different thresholds to the same business. We are interested in the hedging of the risk related to the cost of sub-optimal entry or exit. We introduce a new class of derivative products that can hedge this risk. The pricing of these derivatives involves the joint law of a Brownian excursion and its supremum, which is calculated thanks to Bessel processes-related distribution laws.
Gauthier, Jacques;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73301999000400002
Abstract: actual science is a science of events and occurrences. after deleuze, studying the difference between event and occurrence in the stoician philosophy, the author characterises several ways to "make science": the double capture which is, in a transcultural vision, related to the god ogum in the candomblé; the dark maturation, related to the goddess oss?e etc. after spinoza, the question of the local and the universal in the construction of knowledges is examined; after michel serres, the problem of articulation between myth and science. graziela rodrigues' research, `bailarino-pesquisador-intérprete: processo de forma??o' is an example of an innovated, transcultural and social poetic approach. there's a question left to conclude this article: does the end of colonisation of spirits (and bodies) pass though the creation of a transcultural episteme?

Abstract: A ciência atual é uma ciência do evento e do acontecimento.
"Precariousness" in Québec: one of several concepts applied to young peopleThis paper examines the concept of "precariousness" in a Québec context. This concept was one of several used to describe the situation of young people during the employment crisis of the 1970s and 1980s. It was applied to young people as a whole and thus sometimes favoured a tendency to gloss over the highly vulnerable situations and to amplify the effect of non-standard employment on the future of an entire generation. More moderate use of the concept gradually prevailed with more accurate data. It was a persuasive concept that did bring about individual and collective strategies to help young people. This look backward in time shows that young people are sensitive to the economy and its performance. They are nonetheless not permanently victims of economic downturn. Is the type of welfare state (Esping-Anderson as argued by Vultur) the reason why the concept has had only relative importance in Québec? Should the question be raised as part of a pragmatic approach to change?

Vicky Gauthier
Voix Plurielles , 2012,
