Business and Management Review , 2011,
Abstract: Information systems are mainly used by many organizations to improve efficiency of business activities by automatingexisting operations. Past researches in show that by adopting information systems we can increase firm performance. Results discovered that by adopting accounting information system there is significant improvement in performance. Accounting information system (AIS) is a superior system that focuses on user-orientation. Core objective of AIS is to collect and record data and information that is concerned to events that can economically impact upon firms. It processes information and communicate this useful information to internal and external stakeholders. This study intends to find the effects of Accounting Information system (AIS) on profitability of Pakistani firms. It investigates whether there is any difference between adopters and non adopters of accounting system. The sample data have been taken from sixty six of public listed companies on Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) by purposive sampling dated from 2005 to 2009 period. Study used the four variables. Independent variable is ROA which measures profitability. Two independent variables are Leverage and Firm Size. Leverage is quantified using debt ratio and firm size is measured by taking natural logarithm of total assets. These independent variables are taken on the basis of high availability as determinants of profitability. Study intends to check the overridingrole of accounting system on this relation, so AS acts as intervening variable in the study.

Abstract: This study was designed to investigate the levels of serum apolipoproteins in healthy relatives of the diabeticpatients (diabetic related group). Mean apolipoprotein B (Apo.B) levels of related diabetic males andfemales were significantly (P<0.05) higher than controls. We found no significant change in the level of1 1 1 apolipoprotein A (Apo.A ) in diabetic related groups. The ratio of Apo.A /Apo.B was significantly (P<0.05)decreased in diabetic related females than non-diabetic related control females whereas related diabetic1 males over age of 30 years showed significantly (P<0.01) lowered Apo.A /Apo.B ratio. Different effects ofa family history of diabetes mellitus on lipid and apolipoprotein levels in relatives of diabetic patientswarrants more population based studies.

World Journal of Nuclear Science and Technology (WJNST) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/wjnst.2011.11003
Abstract: We investigate 158A GeV 207Pb projectile fragmentation on Al target using CR-39 nuclear track detectors. A stack containing target-detectors assembly was irradiated at SPS-CERN. After chemical etching, detectors were scanned using an optical microscope to collect the data in the form of etched cone heights. From the cone height measurements, total and partial charge changing cross sections of 207Pb projectiles on aluminum target are determined. The results are compared with both relevant published measurements available in the literature and model predictions. Odd-even effect in the formation of the fragments of 158A GeV 207Pb pro-jectiles is observed in a consistent and a clear manner over the observed range of fragments (Z=63-81). This is achieved by using optimized etching and track measurement conditions.

Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology , 2007,
Abstract: A 20 year-old man presented to our clinic with multiple warts on both hands and tumoral lesions on his face but otherwise healthy. On dermatological examination, numerous brown-black papular lesions, changing from 2 to 5 cm in diameter were found on his face along with multiple, flesh-coloured, flat-topped papules on the dorsa of his hands. A tumoral lesion, approximately 3 cm in diameter on the right side of his forehead and desquamated erythematous macules were also observed on the trunk. Laboratory investigations showed that serum immunoglobulin M (IgM) level was decreased. The histopathological examination of verrucous lesions on the hands was consistent with epidermodysplasia verruciformis and the histopathological diagnosis of the tumoral lesion was squamous cell carcinoma.

Modern Instrumentation (MI) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/mi.2013.23008
Abstract:

The potential of the high resolution nuclear track detector (NTD) CR-39 is examined carefully for the measurement of relativistic nuclear projectile fragmentation cross sections and studies of related processes using the experience of many years of such measurements. The charge resolution and the charge resolving power of CR-39 detectors for the measurements of 158 A GeV 207Pb projectiles and their fragments are presented. Exposures of target-detector stacks, the chemical etching procedure and the nuclear track measurements are described in detail discussing precautions and possible errors. The procedures discussed are also valid for other NTDs. A comparison with electronic active detectors is also made considering important detection and measurement aspects. An experimental design proposing the co-use of NTDs with in-use active detectors is described.

Diagnosis of recurrent cases may be challenging. In this study long-term follow-up of recurrent and/or bilateral ON patients is reported in an effort to guide differential diagnosis and treatment. Methods: The study included 474 optic neuropathy patients. Of these, 70 patients with recurrent unilateral or bilateral, and nonrecurrent bilateral ON were assessed. The characteristics of each ON attack, laboratory and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings, associated diseases and response to treatment were noted for each patient. Most of the patients were reevaluated in the outpatient clinic. Seven patients were investigated for neuromyelitis optica (NMO)-immunoglobulin G (IgG) seropositivity. Results: Forty-seven patients had recurrent unilateral ON and 23 had bilateral ON. Mean follow-up was 7.55 years. Final diagnoses for recurrent unilateral group were multiple sclerosis (MS) (n = 29), chronic relapsing inflammatory optic neuritis (CRION) (n = 11), NMO (n = 4), or autoimmune thyroid disease (n = 3); and for bilateral ON group, MS (n = 4), vasculitis (n = 13), postinfectious ON (n = 4), and sarcoidosis (n = 2). Three patients were positive for NMO antibodies. Conclusion: Based on the data collected, we conclude when recurrent ON causes moderate to severe visual loss in the absence of cranial MRI findings typical of MS, other diagnoses should be considered, including NMO.
