Variation of Total Ozone during 24 August 2005 Magnetic Storm: A Case Study  [PDF]
Gustavo A. Mansilla
Atmospheric and Climate Sciences (ACS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/acs.2013.34049

This paper presents the longitudinal distribution of total ozone along several latitudinal circles from both hemispheres during a strong geomagnetic storm that occurred on 24 August 2005 after a solar proton event (the maximum flux of protons with energy > 10 MeV was 1.70 × 107 protons cm-2.day-1.sr-1 on 23 August). For that, we use average daily values of total ozone observations (=column ozone amount) in Dobson units for the period 18-25 August 2005 (obtained from the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer, TOMS). The considered storm occurred after a relatively quiet geomagnetic period and it is not superposed by another perturbation, which permit us to identify clearly the effects of the geomagnetic storm on total ozone. The results show statistically significant decreases in ozone along the latitudinal circles 70°N and 70°S (summer and winter), no statistically significant effects at middle latitudes (40°S) and sparse statistically significant increases at low latitudes (20°S). The role of some mechanisms to explain the features observed is considered.

Educational Technology and Teacher Education: Barriers and Gates in South America  [PDF]
Gustavo Daniel Constantino
Creative Education (CE) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2014.512122

Historically, Educational Technology (EdTech) and Teacher Education (TE) have shared a conflicted relationship, particularly where practicing teachers have not been trained in ET in a manner so that they are able to coherently and efficiently incorporate the new educational technology into their classrooms and schools. In Latin America’s diverse scenario, our analysis is focused on a scenario consisting of Argentina and Uruguay. In this scenario, we identify the social and cultural context where teacher education and teaching practice take place, the EdTech-related programs with the greatest impact, and the “barriers” hindering access to and the application of EdTech, as well as the “bridges” or “gates” that facilitate their effective incorporation to teaching and learning both at schools and in teacher education. Lastly, we propose some courses of action to reduce these barriers and widen the gates connecting EdTech and school settings.

Some Deviations of Form: A Little Essay on Psychoanalysis, Art and Aesthetics  [PDF]
Gustavo Henrique Dionisio
Creative Education (CE) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2014.519196
Abstract: This work intends to investigate the use of psychoanalytical theory within the aesthetic and critical contemporary art field. To this purpose, it focuses on two philosophers who have become significant in our time: the art critic Hal Foster and the art historian Georges Didi-Huberman. This study aims to show how far the concepts generated in psychoanalytic praxis allowed interpretations that disrupt the traditional aesthetics field. This type of analysis is possible once we abandon the paradigm of “applied psychoanalysis”, which is still current in non-clinical setting. Finally, the proposal wants to argue that the category of the amorphous may clarify certain aesthetic experiences that range from the modernity of art through postmodernity.
Beyond Gangsta: Hip-Hop, Skate Culture and Web Culture in the Music of Tyler, the Creator  [PDF]
Gustavo Souza Marques
Art and Design Review (ADR) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/adr.2015.31002
Abstract: This article came from the homonymous PhD proposal submitted and accepted by Music School of University College Cork (UCC, Ireland) to be started in September 2015 under the guidance of Dr. J. Griffith Rollefson. It aims to point out and discuss the articulations made by rapper, producer, actor and video director Tyler Okonma, known by the stage name Tyler, the Creator, to shift, but also maintain, some frames of gangsta rap discourse. Noticed by his rape fantasies lyrics and ultraviolent shouts, most present in his two first albums, Tyler has been acclaimed for his notable musical talent but criticized for its misogynist themes. Despite this outrageous aspect of its music, his confessional and often self-depreciating lyrics have been a novelty for constant self-pride and powerful hip-hop lyrics. Moreover, it works as a compensation for his aggressiveness since it could be seen as a demonstration of fragility rather than sexual domination. The way he uses hip-hop mentality, skate culture nihilism and Web 2.0 platforms to promote his art has made him one of the most prominent hip-hop artists from 21st century. Based on related authors on hip-hop topics like gangsta, misogyny, media and racial stereotypes this article discuss the ways in which Tyler, the Creator reflects but also denies the most known and commented frames of rap music.
Study of Decoherence of Entangled States Made up of Two Basic States in a Linear Chain of Three Qubits  [PDF]
Gustavo López Velázquez, Gustavo Montes Cabrera
Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2015.611172
Abstract: Using Lindblad approach to study decoherence of quantum systems, we study the decoherence and decay of entangled states, formed by two basic states of a chain of thee qubits. We look on these states for a possible regular dependence on their decay as a function of their energy separation between the basic states under different types of environments. We didn’t find regular or significant dependence on this energy separation for the type of environment considered.
Solid-phase molecular recognition of cytosine based on proton-transfer reaction. Part II. supramolecular architecture in the cocrystals of cytosine and its 5-Fluoroderivative with 5-Nitrouracil
Gustavo Portalone
Chemistry Central Journal , 2011, DOI: 10.1186/1752-153x-5-51
Abstract: Reaction of cytosine (Cyt) and 5-fluorocytosine (5Fcyt) with 5-nitrouracil (Nit) in aqueous solution yielded two new products, which have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The products include a dihydrated molecular salt (CytNit) having both ionic and neutral hydrogen-bonded species, and a dihydrated cocrystal of neutral species (5FcytNit). In CytNit a protonated and an unprotonated cytosine form a triply hydrogen-bonded aggregate in a self-recognition ion-pair complex, and this dimer is then hydrogen bonded to one neutral and one anionic 5-nitrouracil molecule. In 5FcytNit the two neutral nucleobase derivatives are hydrogen bonded in pairs. In both structures conventional N-H...O, O-H...O, N-H+...N and N-H...N- intermolecular interactions are most significant in the structural assembly. The supramolecular structure of the molecular adducts formed by cytosine and 5-fluorocytosine with 5-nitrouracil, CytNit and 5FcytNit, respectively, have been investigated in detail. CytNit and 5FcytNit exhibit widely differing hydrogen-bonding patterns, though both possess layered structures. The crystal structures of CytNit (Dpka = -0.7, molecular salt) and 5FcytNit (Dpka = -2.0, cocrystal) confirm that, at the present level of knowledge about the nature of proton-transfer process, there is not a strict correlation between the Dpka values and the proton transfer, in that the acid/base pka strength is not a definite guide to predict the location of H atoms in the solid state. Eventually, the absence in 5FcytNit of hydrogen bonds involving fluorine is in agreement with findings that covalently bound fluorine hardly ever acts as acceptor for available Br?nsted acidic sites in the presence of competing heteroatom acceptors. Our more recent knowledge of both the detail and the variety of DNA structures themselves, and the manner in which they are recognized by regulatory proteins, mutational compounds and drugs, is starting to pave the way to more profound levels of
Los cardos y las tareas rurales en la provincia de Buenos Aires durante el siglo XIX
Mundo agrario , 2004,
Abstract: in this paper, we focuses on the thistles and their influence on the rural works during the twentieth century, from the following items: the thistles' localization on the buenos aires province; their way of multiplication; which is the connection between the thistles and the men and animals; the thistles' influence on the management of colonial estancia. contrary to the historiography, we consider that the thistles didn't determinate the rural works, but this was related with the scarcity of workers.
?Cuál es el alcance de una teoría de la justicia?
Pereira, Gustavo;
Diánoia , 2010,
Abstract: sen's criticisms to the theories of justice give way to the projection of three aspects of the scope of such theories. the first aspect is the possibility for an idealized moment and one of applicability to work together, because idealized principles and normative criteria allow for the guidance towards the applicability of the model. the second aspect is connected to the demands of applicability, in which task sen's capability informational basis allows for the expansion of rawlsian justice. the third aspect presents the articulation of two informational bases and their respective distributive and compensatory logics. these three aspects of the scope of a theory of justice represent the best way toward the realization of justice in democratic societies, especially those severely affected by poverty, marginalization and social inequalities.
Roma: capital de un Imperio bajo el signo de la biología política (1936-1942)
Dynamis , 2012, DOI: 10.4321/S0211-95362012000100006
Abstract: this paper analyzes the symbolic conformation of rome and romanism as important factors in the affirmation of the power of fascism, especially after the proclamation of the empire in 1936. within this framework, it explores the role of science in legitimizing the direct correlation of this symbolic universe with a praxis that exalted racial superiority inherited from ancient rome. it investigates the links between the eugenic discourse and the exercise of power behind the "biology policy", including fascist organicism and racism. in fact, rome was the essence of an empire that was reborn after fifteen centuries and, between its historical legacy and the new scenarios created by fascism for disciplining the population, romanism had to condense all of the merits of the race, encouraging military conquests and promoting responsibility for maintaining racial purity and avoiding "unwanted miscegenation" with conquered peoples. the idea of romanism also encouraged a continuation of the persecution of jews started in germany. hence, science ratified a widespread idea of the romanization as a crusade to impose a force, exaggerated on racial grounds, which integrated confidence in environmental factors with a crude biological determinism.
Concentración financiera en la Ciudad de México (1960-2001)
EURE (Santiago) , 2005, DOI: 10.4067/S0250-71612005009200002
Abstract: the paper analyses the mexican banking system during 1960-2001, focusing on the financial concentration at the metropolitan zone of mexico city and other world?s metropolis. the statistical data presented support the hypothesis of a capitalist trend towards the territorial concentration of financial services, and that the level of concentration is higher than in the rest of producer services. at the present stage of development, the triple spatial metamorphosis which is inherent to capital accumulation is accentuated as follows: a) consolidation of the world?s urban hierarchy with the global cities at the pinnacle; b) agglomeration of services inside the metropolitan areas; and c) high concentration of financial services in one or a few cities in each country. the analysis leads to the conclusion that some producer services, such as banking and finance, constitute an historic category that has been named general services of production
