Abstract:
Ba5NdTi3V7O30 is a tungsten bronze structured ceramic sample, prepared by Solid State reaction route at high temperature (950℃). The room temperature XRD analysis confirms orthorhombic crystal structure of the compound. Dielectric peak is observed at ~460℃ showing the transition of the compound from ferroelectric to paraelectric phase. Appearance of hysteresis loop confirms the existence of ferroelectric properties in the materials. Different values of activation energy in different temperature regions of the ac conductivity versus inverse absolute temperature graph exhibit mixed type of conduction process in the compound (i.e., ionic-polaronic and space charge generated from the oxygen ion vacancies).

Abstract: The present paper focuses an optimal policy of an inventory model for deteriorating items with generalized demand rate and deterioration rate. Shortages are allowed and partially backlogged. The salvage value is included into deteriorated units. The main objective of the model is to minimize the total cost by optimizing the value of the shortage point, cycle length and order quantity. A numerical example is carried out to illustrate the model and sensitivity analyses of major parameters are discussed.

Abstract: The channel of Bhagirathi River is the branches off from the Ganga at Nurpur (lower course of the Ganga). Bhagirathi River is one of the main rivers in Murshidabad district. Analyzing the image of the Bhagirathi River in Murshidabad district through the year 1970, 1977, 1990, 2000 and 2006, it is found that significant changed has been occurred in souththern part of the river and less change is found in the middle part which is close to the Berhampore town. Toposheet of the year 1970 is also compared with the image data to observe the change. Water discharge, soil types and transportation of sediment is the major contributing factor of morphological changes like bar or shoal, ox-bow Lake, meander etc. Maximum erosion takes place at Dear Balagachi and after Baidyanathpur. A cut-off has take place at Baidyanathpur in 1984 [1]. It is found from the study that there is a possibility of natural meander cut-off at Dear Balagachi and near Majayampur. The traditional bank protection works, concrete walls, cemented stone and brick, play a significant role in the modification of the hydraulic aspect of the discharge values and in the interference in the water dynamics of erosive and depositional phenomena both upstream and downstream.

Abstract: The reaction of Os(RL1)(PPh3)2(CO)Br, 1b, with qui-nolin-8-ol (HQ), 2, has furnished complexes of the type [Os(RL2)(PPh3)2(CO)(Q)], 3, in excellent yield (RL1 is C6H2O-2-CHNHC6H4R(p)-3-Me-5, RL2 is C6H2OH-2-CHNC6H4R(p)-3-Me-5 and R is Me, OMe, Cl). In this process, quinolin-8-olato (Q) undergoes five-membered chelation, the iminium-phenolato function tautomerizing to the imine-phenol function. The trans geometry of the Os(PPh3)2 fragment is consistent with the occurrence of a single 31P resonance near –6.0 ppm in 3. In dichloromethane solution, 3 displays a quasireversible 3+/3 couple near 0.40 V vs. SCE (3+ is the osmium (III) analogue of 3). Coulometrically generated solutions of 3+ displays a strong absorption near 340 nm, 415 nm and 500 nm and are one-electron paramagnetic (low-spin d5, S = 1/2) and show rhombic EPR spectra in 1:1 dichloromethanetoluene solution at 77 K with g values near 2.44, 2.20, 1.83. Distortion parameters using the observed g values have been computed. Solutions of 3 absorb near 420 nm and emit near 510 nm at 298 K and 580 nm at 77 K. The fluorescence is believed to originate from the 3MLCT state.

Abstract: We calculate the reaction and the fusion cross-sections of neutron-rich heavy nuclei taking light exotic isotopes as projectiles. Results of neutron-rich Pb and U isotopes are demonstrated as the representative targets and He, B as the projectiles. The Gluaber Model and the Coupled Channel Formalism are used to evaluate the reaction and the fusion cross-sections for the cases considered. Based on the analysis of these cross-sections, we predict the formation of heavy, superheavy and super-superheavy elements through rapid neutron/ light nuclei capture r-process of the nucleosynthesis in astrophysical objects.

Abstract: Control strategies for extracting the three-phase reference currents for shunt active power filters are compared, evaluating their performance under different source conditions with PI and Fuzzy Controllers in MATLAB/Simulink environment When the supply voltages are balanced and sinusoidal, the two control strategies are converge to the same compensation characteristics; However, the supply voltages are distorted and/or un-balanced sinusoidal, these control strategies result in different degrees of compensation in harmonics. The compensation capabilities are not equivalent, with p - q control strategy unable to yield an adequate solution when source voltages are not ideal. Extensive simulations are carried out with PI controller and also with Fuzzy controller for both p-q and Id-Iq control strategies under different main voltages. Extensive Simulations are carried out with PI as well as fuzzy controller for both p-q and Id - Iq control strategies by considering different voltage conditions and adequate results were presented. On owing Id - Iq method with fuzzy logic controller gives away an out-standing performance under any voltage conditions (balanced, un-balanced, balanced and non-sinusoidal).

Abstract: The main objective of this paper is to develop PI and Fuzzy logic controllers to analyse the performance of instantaneous real active and reactive power (p-q) control strategy for extracting reference currents of shunt active filters under balanced, un-balanced and balanced non-sinusoidal conditions. When the supply voltages are balanced and sinusoidal, then all controllers converge to the same compensation characteristics. However, when the supply voltages are distorted and/or un-balanced sinusoidal, these control strategies result in different degrees of compensation in harmonics. The p-q control strategy with PI controller is unable to yield an adequate solution when source voltages are not ideal. Extensive simulations were carried out; simulations were performed with balance, unbalanced and non sinusoidal conditions. Simulation results validate the dynamic behaviour of Fuzzy logic controller over PI controller. The 3-ph 4-wire SHAF system is also implemented on a Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS Hardware) to further verify its effectiveness. The detailed simulation and RTDS Hardware results are included.

WOMEN AND DRUG ABUSE IN INDIA: CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES

Abstract: The social consequences, disadvantage and sub-ordination of women on the one hand, and the rapid socio-cultural and economic changes on the other have significantly altered traditional structures and institutions within society. Such changes are invariably associated with social upheaval, and drug abuse is a known outcome of such change. Clearly, drug abuse impacts women dually- male drug abuse creates enormous burden for the affected women, and drug abuser has even graver problems for women. From another perspective, urban settings appear to be associated with patterns of drug abuse in women mirroring that of men, with probably higher risk behaviours associated with unsafe injecting and sexual practices which causes transmission of Hepatitis and HIV. Use of drugs causes domestic violence, which magnifies the physical and emotional distress of the family. Women who misuse of drugs commonly reported serious diseases like as ARI, gastrointestinal, genitourinary liver problems and sexually transmitted infections. Women also suffered psychological problems included insomnia, depression and anxiety etc. The Approaches of treatment and prevention therefore need to consider the problem of drug abuse impact on women from all these angles, as well as from the context of empowerment, support and attention to the special needs of women.”
ISOLATED ILEAL SARCOIDOSIS PRESENTING AS APPENDICITIS

Abstract: Background: Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous disorder of unknown etiology-with potential to involve multiple organs. The most commonly involved organs are lungs, lymph nodes and spleen. The true incidence of intestinal involvement is not known as it is very rare. Case Report: We report a case of a 54-year-old male with suspected sarcoidosis in remission for 10 years who presented with clinical features of acute appendicitis. On table appendix was found to be normal but terminal ileum up to ileo-caecal junction was inflamed with patchy necrosis. A limited right hemi-colectomy was done and histology confirmed sarcoidosis. Postoperative recovery was uneventful and patient remained asymptomatic until one year of follow up. Conclusion: Isolated terminal ileitis presenting like appendicitis in systemic sarcoidosis, especially in remission was unknown before. This case and the literature review highlights this phenomena and guide management.
