Abstract: For the past forty years, the study of the unearthed bamboo medical books has always been a very valid concern and many important achievements have yet been achieved. However, the lack of standard handwriting in addition to seriously being destroyed when unearthed, it’s not that easy to read them. The purpose of this article is to sort through and correct some commonly occurred interpretation mistakes from the previous studies.
An Efficient Method to Reduce the Numerical Dispersion in the HIE-FDTD Scheme  [PDF]

Abstract: A parameter optimized approach for reducing the numerical dispersion of the 3-D hybrid implicit-explicit finite-difference time-domain (HIE-FDTD) is presented in this letter. By adding a parameter into the HIE-FDTD formulas, the error of the numerical phase velocity can be controlled, causing the numerical dispersion to decrease significantly. The numerical stability and dispersion relation are presented analytically, and numerical experiments are given to substantiate the proposed method.
Centralized Quasi-Static Channel Assignment for Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks  [PDF]

Abstract: Employing multiple channels in wireless multihop networks is regarded as an effective approach to increas-ing network capacity. This paper presents a centralized quasi-static channel assignment for multi-radio multi-channel Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs). The proposed channel assignment can efficiently utilize multiple channels with only 2 radios equipped on each mesh router. In the scheme, the network end-to-end traffics are first modeled by probing data at wireless access points, and then the traffic load between each pair of neighboring routers is further estimated using an interference-aware estimation algorithm. Having knowledge of the expected link load, the scheme assigns channels to each radio with the objective of mini-mizing network interference, which as a result greatly improves network capacity. The performance evalua-tion shows that the proposed scheme is highly responsive to varying traffic conditions, and the network per-formance under the channel assignment significantly outperforms the single-radio IEEE 802.11 network as well as the 2-radio WMN with static 2 channels.

Abstract: Modeling of photovoltaic (PV) and wind farms (WF) stations to take into account these renewable energies into the power flow formulation are summarized. A strategy based on multi objective optimization in order to allocate PV and WF power into electrical power system is proposed. It is assumed that there are a reduced number of choices to allocate the stations. The algorithm is applied to the 39-bus test power system. The results show that the proposed algorithm is capable of optimal placement of renewable units.
Fabrication of Poly(Aspartic Acid)-Nanogold Modified Electrode and Its Application for Simultaneous Determination of Dopamine, Ascorbic Acid, and Uric Acid  [PDF]

Abstract: A nanostructured polymer film incorporated gold nanoparticles modified electrode was fabricated. The fabrication process involved a previous electropolymerization of aspartic acid and followed by the eletrodeposition of gold nano-particles on the glassy carbon electrode. The resulting poly (aspartic acid)-nanogold modified electrode (PAA- nano-Au/GCE) was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical impedance spectros-copy (EIS). A higher catalytic activity was obtained to electrocatalytic oxidation of dopamine (DA), ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA) due to the enhanced peak current and well-defined peak separations compared with three, bare GCE, PAA/GCE and nano-Au/GCE. Simultaneous determination of DA, AA, and UA were studied by voltammetry. The linear range of 5.0 × 10-7 - 1.0 × 10-4 M for DA, 5.0 × 10-6 - 2.0 × 10-3 M for AA and 5.0 × 10-6 - 1.0 × 10-3 M for UA was obtained. The detection limit was calculated for DA, AA and UA as being 6.5 × 10-8 M, 5.6 × 10-7 M and 3.0 × 10-7 M, respectively (S/N = 3). The practical application of the present modified electrode was demonstrated by the determination of DA, AA and UA in calf serum and fetal calf serum samples.

Abstract: Background Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) are two important cytokines in inflammatory response, which may induce rolling and adhesion of both leukocytes and lymphocytes, while modulating vascular permeability at the same time. These adhesion molecules usually serve as surrogate markers of activation and injury of vascular endothelial cells. Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) is a key factor to induce the expression and production of the above cell adhesion molecules. However, it remains to be elucidated whether exogenous ubiquitin exerts any effect on the cytokines in sepsis-induced ALI. Methods Sixty mice were devided randomly into five groups with twelve mice in each group, i.e. CLP group, SHAM group, UB1 group (10 mg/kg), UB2 group (5 mg/kg) and UB3 group(1 mg/kg). Mice of SHAM group underwent sham operation, and other four groups underwent CLP. Six hours after surgery, mice of three UB groups received ubiquitin by caudal vein injection while CLP and SHAM group received vehicle. Seven hours after surgery, blood and lungs of all mice were collected. ICAM-1, VCAM-1 and TNF-α level of 9% lung homogenate and serum TNF-α level were measured by ELISA. Results Pulmonary ICAM-1, VCAM-1 and TNF-α level of three UB groups were lower than CLP and SHAM group, and there were several comparisons with a statistically significant difference. Serum TNF-α level of three UB groups were slightly lower than CLP group, but far higher than SHAM group. Pulmonary ICAM-1 level, VCAM-1 level and serum TNF-α level of UB3 group were lower than UB1 and UB2 group, and there was a significant difference in VCAM-1 between UB3 and UB1 group. Pulmonary TNF-α level of UB3 group was slightly higher than UB1 and UB2 group.

Abstract: Methane catalytic decomposition (MCD) over Ni/MCM-41 catalysts was tested in a microreactor to simultaneously produce hydrogen and carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The methane conversion reached 30% to 47% at a moderate temperature range from 400°C to 600°C and the catalytic activity of the catalysts remains stable during 500 min steam on time. CNTs were chiefly formed through tip-growth mode, due to the weak interaction between the metallic Ni and the support. Most of the Ni particles are located on the tip of the produced CNTs, which avoids rapid deactivation of the catalyst resulted from carbon encapsulation. Large Ni particles usually lead to the formation of CNTs with big diameter. During the reaction, the shape of Ni particles changed from pseudo-sphere to diamond-like. All the CNTs consist of multiple layer walls and are curved in certain degree.
Keggin Structure and Surface Acidity of 12-Phosphotungstic Acid Grafted Zr-MCM-48 Mesoporous Molecular Sieves  [PDF]

Abstract: A zirconium modified MCM-48 mesoporous material was synthesized by surfactant-templated method. Surface grafting Zr-MCM-48 with tungstophosphoric acid led to a great enhancement of both the number of the Br?nsted acid sites and acidity strength in comparison with the bare support. At 100°C, the 30 wt% H3PW12O40/Zr-MCM-48 contained 174 μmol/g Br?nsted acid sites which were 14.5 times greater than that of Zr-MCM-48. The Keggin structure of the grafted heteropolyacid was rather stable after calcination at 400°C for 2 h, approximately 93.3% of Keggin structure in the dispersed heteropolyacid were remained without destruction but slightly distorted in some degree, as evidenced by FTIR characterization and 31P NMR-MAS analysis. This H3PW12O40/Zr-MCM-48 solid with three dimensional mesoporous system, large surface area and very strong Br?nsted acidity will be a promising catalyst for acid catalytic reactions.
Division-Algebras/Poincare-Conjecture Correspondence  [PDF]

We briefly describe the importance of division algebras and Poincaré conjecture in both mathematical and physical scenarios. Mathematically, we argue that using the torsion concept one can combine the formalisms of division algebras and Poincaré conjecture. Physically, we show that both formalisms may be the underlying mathematical tools in special relativity and cosmology. Moreover, we explore the possibility that by using the concept of n-qubit system, such conjecture may allow generalization the Hopf maps.

A Case of Ectopic Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone (GHRH) from Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor Resistant to Therapy  [PDF]

Introduction: Ectopic secretion of GHRH is a rare cause of acromegaly. However, its recognition is clinically important because different therapeutic approaches are required. Case Presentation: We present a challenging case of acromegaly secondary to ectopic GHRH secretion from pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor in a 52-year-old female. The patient is treated with different modalities which include pegvisomant in an attempt to control the stimulated GH-axis considering the limited data about its use in treatment of ectopic acromegaly. Conclusion: GHRH-secreting tumor is a rare cause of acromegaly. Surgical resection of the tumor is the therapy of choice whenever possible. However, further studies are warranted for unresectable tumor or resistant cases.
