Donghyun Kim, Seoksoo Kim
World Journal of Engineering and Technology (WJET) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/wjet.2015.33C030
Abstract:

The growth of ICT within the society has become increasingly digitized, thus, the overall activity has amounted to various researches for protecting any data from malicious threats. Recently, ransomware has been a rapidly propagated subject for social engineering techniques especially the ransomware. Users can delete a ransomeware code using an antivirus software code. However, the encrypted data would be impossible to recover. Therefore, ransomware must be prevented and must have early detection before it infects any data. In this paper, we are proposing a quantification model to prevent and detect any cryptographic operations in the local drive.

The Effect of Prunella on Anti-Inflammatory Activity in RAW264.7 Mouse Macrophage Cells  [PDF]
Meehye Kim
Food and Nutrition Sciences (FNS) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/fns.2012.39170
Abstract: The extracts of Prunella vulgaris L. (Labiatae), a popular Western and Chinese herbal medicine, was shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which might be due to partially, their rosmarinic acid content. Inhition of prostaglandine E2 (PGE2) production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulated RAW264.7 mouse macrophage cells was assessed with an enzyme immunoassay (EIA) following 8-hour treatments with Prunella vulgaris extracts or fractions. Results showed that 95% ethanol extracts from P. vulgaris significantly inhibited PGE2 production. In further studies, fraction 2 from the 95% ethanol extract of P. vulgaris significantly reduced PGE2 production at 66 µg/ml (72% reduction). Cytotoxic-ity did not play a role in the noted reduction of PGE2 seen in either the extracts or fractions from P. vulgaris. High performance liquid chromatography analysis showed that there was 1.4 mM rosmarinic acid in 95% ethanol Prunella extract (201 mg/ml crude extract). Our results suggest that rosmarinic acid may contribute toward the anti-inflammatory activity of Prunella in a dose-response manner. Prunella might have a potential to be used as a functional food for anti-inflammatory activity.
An Effect of the Elastic Energy Stored in the Muscle-Tendon Complex at Two Different Coupling-Time Conditions during Vertical Jump  [PDF]
Sukwon Kim
Advances in Physical Education (APE) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ape.2013.31002
Abstract:

A study was performed to evaluate effects of elastic energy stored pre-stretch on the mechanical work output while performing vertical jump. Eight male volunteers of age between 21-29 years old participated in the present study. The present study hypothesized that the vertical jump height during countermovement jumps (CMJ) would be higher than that during squat jump (SJ). During squat jump, a volunteer paused 0.5 sec before making upward movement. The results showed that ground reaction forces and vertical jump displacements were higher in CMJ in comparison to SJ. The study concluded that part of the positive work measured did derive from the recoil of the elastic component of the muscle-tendon complex.

Material Resource Planning (MRP): Will You Need MRP without the Customer?  [PDF]
Kwahng Kim
Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2014.24027
Abstract: The objective of this paper is to introduce a new philosophy that when integrated with existing methodologies, will improve customer service within the manufacturing sector. This paper intends to provide the reader with an understanding that the entire operation has to be involved and collectively focused in order to continuously exceed customer expectations. Short falls of existing systems will be examined with a key focus on the importance of not tying all expectations on MRP, a historical algorithmic electronic scheduling system.
A Study for Building Smart Home Environment Based on Modular Equipment Design Concept  [PDF]
Seokjin Kim
Art and Design Review (ADR) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/adr.2015.32007
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a modular equipment design concept for building smart-home environment, which can deal with the problems such as life expectancy and complicated cable networks. Recently, the advancement of digital technology in residential networking and connections (i.e., internet cables, power cables, and network cables) has made a positive alteration to the interspatial relationship between appliances. Moreover, the interaction and communication between user and application has understood progressive changes. In future home environment, the living room is a place that has become a haven for the family and a place for entertainment as well. The downside of the new technologies is the life expectancy of the product, which is affected by a simple change to the development of digital technology.

Journal of Agricultural Chemistry and Environment (JACEN) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jacen.2013.21003
Abstract: A multilateral effort into managing nonpoint source pollution from agriculture has gotten much attention for many years. Particularly during the heavy rain season, run-off of turbid water from sloped farmlands, fallow ground and/or unmanaged uplands is deteriorated. Flocculant polymer, commonly used in wastewater treatment facilities, but now exploited to improve control of sediment turbidity by promoting flocculation of particles in construction site. This study used the flocculant polymer to control the discharge of agricultural nonpoint source pollution and focused on the understanding of how soil-water and polymer properties affect flocculation performance. Therefore, a series of flocculation experiments under different conditions was evaluated for better polymer clarification efficiency. Various factors such as flocculant dose, end-over-end inversion of a cylinder, and soil-water properties (pH, NaCl, organic matter) were studied. The effective flocculant dose that fulfilled fast settling rate was 10mg·L-1. Additional findings included that 1) increasing pH decreased the settling rate of soil particle; 2) a positive relationship between the percentage of turbidity reduction and a level of salinity in Kaolin suspension was observed, and 3) organic matter in soil solution inhibited PAM adsorption onto soil particles, which caused the reduction of flocculation performance. The findings of this study revealed that flocculant polymer possess good results as a turbidity reducetion measure and couldfurther provide valuable information to make better decision on establishment of Best Management Practice for handling agricultural nonpoint source pollution.
Management Performance Evaluation Model of Korean Construction Firms  [PDF]
Donghoon Lee, Manki Kim, Sunkuk Kim
Journal of Building Construction and Planning Research (JBCPR) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jbcpr.2013.12005
Abstract: Corporate management performance evaluation currently focuses on financial aspects; however, it is necessary to identify and manage elements that contribute to increased economic values in the long run. When it comes to construction firms, most previous research did not cover weighting and estimation approaches for non-financial elements that ultimately influence financial status. In this research, the objective is to develop a management performance evaluation model for Korean construction firms. The model includes financial factors and non-financial factors. This research investigated actual data from Korean construction firmsandclassifiedtheir characteristics. This study is performed in two steps. First, this study derives KPIs for performance measurement techniques and weights the KPIs. And then, it applies the performance data of construction firms to the technique. The findings of this study show that Korean construction firms consider customers to be the foremost priority, converse to previous research which argued that the internal business process was the top priority. The performance measurement results can be fed back into strategies and plans to shed light on issues, reflect on management plans for subsequent years and modify mid to long-term strategies. Therefore, the developed model can help decision-makers effectively revise their management plans.
Analysis of the Cause for the Collapse of a Temporary Bridge Using Numerical Simulation  [PDF]
Changsung Kim, Jongtae Kim, Joongu Kang
Engineering (ENG) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2013.512121
Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to suggest the measures and methods for securing the stability of temporary bridges by analyzing the cause for the collapse of the temporary bridge built for the construction of the GunNam flood control reservoir located at the main channel of the Im-Jin River. Numerical simulations (one-, two-, and three-dimensional) were performed by collecting field data, and the results showed that the collapse occurred because the height of the temporary bridge was lower than the water level at the time of the collapse. Also, the drag force calculation showed that when the guardrail installed on the upper deck structure was not considered, there was no problem as the calculated values were lower than the design load, whereas when the guardrail was considered, the stability was not secured as the calculated values were higher than the design load, 37.73 kN/m. It is thought that the actual force of the water flow applied on the bridge increased due to the accumulation of debris on the guardrail as well as the upper deck.

Yongse Kim, Heeju Lee, Jihoon Kim
Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2015.37029
Abstract:

To improve competitiveness of a manufacturing company through enhanced experience values of customers, service elements are added to a product. The servitization process could take many different routes reflecting various properties of the manufacturing firm and its business contexts. A comprehensive servitization process of the high-level strategy decision and the low-level specific product-service systems design method have been developed at the Service Design Institute of Sungkyunkwan Universty. The servitization case of a small furniture manufacturing company is described in this paper to demonstrate the utility of the servitization method.

Identities of Symmetry for q-Euler Polynomials  [PDF]
Dae San Kim
Open Journal of Discrete Mathematics (OJDM) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ojdm.2011.11003
Abstract: In this paper, we derive eight basic identities of symmetry in three variables related to q-Euler polynomials and the q -analogue of alternating power sums. These and most of their corollaries are new, since there have been results only about identities of symmetry in two variables. These abundance of symmetries shed new light even on the existing identities so as to yield some further interesting ones. The derivations of identities are based on the p-adic integral expression of the generating function for the q -Euler polynomials and the quotient of integrals that can be expressed as the exponential generating function for the q -analogue of alternating power sums.
