Free Will for Artificial Machines with Natural Intelligence  [PDF]
Luis F. Copertari
Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1102355
Abstract: A discussion on how artificial machines with natural intelligence would be safe or not is made based on scientific, philosophical and theological arguments. The finite or infinite nature of the universe is discussed and the implications analyzed. The concepts of destiny and free will are considered, with implications on what it would mean to create an artificial consciousness and how it would be possible to give it or deny it its free will. Computer experiments are carried out based on cellular automata and the results considered. A thorough discussion follows and a conclusion is reached.
Emerging Markets and the Pacific Alliance  [PDF]
Luis F. Copertari
Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1102919
Abstract:
Humanity faces today several challenges, from environmental deterioration to consumerism and a demand from the economy to sustain exponential growth over the long term. A new middle class in emerging markets in Latin America and Asia is gaining purchasing power. The issue of exponential growth is explored as to whether or not it is really sustainable based on a computational experiment. Also, the very idea of money is scrutinized. A new complementary currency called the PAL (for Pacific Alliance dollar) is proposed and the business model is pictured and explained. The way in which such new currency would be valued is illustrated. Finally, the most relevant issues are discussed and some examples of the types of business to promote are considered.
Neolaborism: A Theory of Political Economy on the Value of Human Labor as Opposed to Artificial Labor as the Ultimate Means of the Economy in the XXI Century  [PDF]
Luis F. Copertari
Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1103835
Abstract:
Neolaborism is a theory that can easily be applied in political economy explaining the value of the economies as a function of the salaries and profit paid and received, respectively. Neolaborism can be defined as the idea that only through the increases in salaries and profits received tied to increases in productivity at least as large as those increases in salaries and profits the economy can grow. Such productivity increases may be due to the successful application of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is postulated that only the workforce gives value to the economy and a practical way to increase salaries and profit without creating inflation by the use and application of the new technologies of AI is presented. It is also worth mentioning that applying AI without proper care could lead to the destruction of capitalism. Thus, it is crucial, now more than ever, to consider the perspectives of neolaborism when elaborating constructive economic policy in the XXI century.
On Opening the Gate to the Stars and Superintelligence  [PDF]
Luis F. Copertari
Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1103995
Abstract:
Humanity is engaged in a search for the future, a search both inwards into the meaning and basis of our own humanity and the possibility of superintelligence (being that biologically based, artificial or both) and outwards out to the stars and the exploration and colonization of other planets. I call the emergence of superintelligence transcendence and the discovery of space jumping, which would make human colonization possible through interstellar travelling, the singularity event. I believe we need both of these events if we truly want to succeed and survive as a species towards the foreseeable future.
On the Optimal Trade Tariffs among Nations  [PDF]
Luis F. Copertari
Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1104641
Abstract:
An optimization model for calculating trade tariffs based on the idea of a zero-balanced trade account for countries around the world is proposed. Specifically, countries in the G20 group of nations were analyzed. The results are scrutinized and reflected upon, and some ideas about policy to follow are proposed. Both the mercantilist and Keynesian points of view are considered.
Visualising project management dimensions
Luis Copertari
Journal of Project, Program & Portfolio Management , 2012,
Abstract: It is easier to decide upon which projects to include in a portfolio if a comprehensive human–computer interface is provided. Two alternative displays were designed according to best practice from the literature and tested according to a simple mathematical optimisation model and the average error from testing subjects and the “optimal” solution to decide which one performs better.
Selecting projects in a portfolio using risk and ranking
Luis Copertari
Journal of Project, Program & Portfolio Management , 2011,
Abstract: There are three dimensions in project management: time, cost and performance. Risk is a characteristic related to the previous dimensions and their relationships. A risk equation is proposed based on the nature of the uncertainty associated to each dimension as well as the relationship between the uncertainties. A ranking equation that is able to prioritise projects is proposed and discussed. The problem solved here is which projects to select in a given portfolio of projects. The model is implemented in a group decision support system (GDSS) which can guide decisionmakers in their decision process. However, the system is not intended as a substitution of the decisionmaker task, but merely as an aid. The methodology used is analysis of the equations proposed and trial and error based on examples. This paper’s main contribution is the risk equation and the ranking equation.

García,Luis F; Barrera,Luis F;
Biomédica , 2004,
Abstract: perspectives for new anti-tuberculous vaccines in the post-genomic era vaccination with attenuated mycobacterium bovis bcg has been used as the routine procedure to immunize against tuberculosis. since the efficacy of bcg vaccination is very controversial, the search for new immunoprophylatic tools against tuberculosis is an area of intense interest. knowledge of the complete sequence of mycobacterium tuberculosis (mtb) h37rv genome and the application of new immunological, biochemical and genetic technologies has led to a detailed understanding of the transcriptome and proteome of this bacterium. approximately one-third of the human population is infected with mtb; however, the bacillus is only detected once the symptoms appear and therefore most of the recent efforts have been devoted to the development of a post-infection vaccine. in theory, this vaccine (1) will give rise to an increase in the long-lasting specific immunity against mtb, (2) will not have significant adverse effects, and (3) will be affordable for the people in third world countries. the main strategies that have been developed include the subunit vaccines, either as a mixture of relevant immunogenic proteins or dna constructs, recombinant strains of mycobacterium bovis bcg and mtb, designed to secrete immunogenic proteins or with attenuated virulence, respectively, and dna-based vaccines. the subunit vaccines are delivered either as mixtures of immunogenic proteins and adjuvants, or as naked dna or by viral vectors in order to induce a potent th1 response. most of these vaccines have been tested in several kinds of animal models, but they do not fully reproduce the human pathology. however, the results obtained so far are very encouraging and have led to the development of phase i trials in humans.
Scattering Amplitudes, the AdS/CFT Correspondence, Minimal Surfaces, and Integrability
Luis F. Alday
Advances in High Energy Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1155/2010/703064
Abstract: We focus on the computation of scattering amplitudes of planar maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mill in four dimensions at strong coupling by means of the AdS/CFT correspondence and explain how the problem boils down to the computation of minimal surfaces in AdS in the first part of this paper. In the second part of this review we explain how integrability allows to give a solution to the problem in terms of a set of integral equations. The intention of the review is to give a pedagogical, rather than very detailed, exposition. 1. Introduction The aim of this review is to study gluon scattering amplitudes of four-dimensional planar maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills (MSYMs). We hope that the study of such amplitudes would teach us something about scattering amplitudes of QCD, but at the same time they are much more tractable. The reason for such tractability is twofold. On one hand, perturbative computations are much simpler than in QCD, due to the high degree of symmetry. In fact enormous progress has been made in the last few years. On the other hand, the strong coupling regime of the theory can be studied by means of the AdS/CFT duality, by studying a weakly coupled string sigma-model. The aim of these lectures is to explain how to use the AdS/CFT duality in order to compute gluon scattering amplitudes of planar MSYM at strong coupling. In the next section we briefly describe some weak coupling perturbative results for scattering amplitudes in planar MSYM. Scattering amplitudes of massless gauge theories in four dimensions suffer from IR divergences; hence, a regulator needs to be introduced in order to define them properly. A convenient choice is dimensional regularization, in which the theory is studied in dimensions. As we will see, perturbative computations suggest an ansatz, the so-called BDS ansatz, according to which the amplitude exponentiates. By now, we know that the BDS ansatz is not correct at higher loops and for a large number of particles. Still, it was a useful guidance for recent developments, and perturbative results are often expressed in terms of deviations from this ansatz. In Section 3 we proceed and explain how the AdS/CFT duality can be used to compute scattering amplitudes at strong coupling. As in the weak coupling computation, amplitudes are IR divergent as a regulator has to be introduced. In order to set up the computation we introduce a -brane as regulator. Actual computations, however, are done by using the analogous of dimensional regularization, since we are interested in comparing our results to the expectations from
