Single Sevikar : Combination Therapy for the Treatment of Hypertension
Eduardo Pimenta
Clinical Medicine : Therapeutics , 2009,
Abstract: Hypertension is one of the most important modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality and is highly prevalent. Recent guidelines and advisory statements have recommended lower thresholds and goals for patients with hypertension. However, approximately two-thirds of hypertensive patients do not achieve the goals. Poor adherence to anti-hypertensive medication regimens is a common cause of the practice-outcome gap. Monotherapy is also associated with difficulty to control blood pressure (BP) as most of hypertensive patients require 2 or more antihypertensive agents to effectively reduce BP. Therefore, current guidelines have recommended the use of combination therapy early in the management of hypertension or as first-line treatment. Fixed-dose combinations offer many advantages, such as convenience of use and fewer adverse events. Blockage of two or more BP regulatory systems also provides a more effective and physiologic BP reduction. Similar to other combinations, fixed-dose combination tablets containing dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers and angiotensin receptor blockers bring together two distinct and complementary mechanisms of action.

Pesquisa-a??o crítico-colaborativa: construindo seu significado a partir de experiências com a forma??o docente
Pimenta, Selma Garrido;
Educa??o e Pesquisa , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1517-97022005000300013
Abstract: this text presents the process of reconfiguration of the meaning and sense of action research as a critical-collaborative research starting from two experiences we have coordinated involving teams from university and from public schools in the state of s?o paulo, as well as discussing its potential for impact in teacher education and action and its implications for public policies in education. concerned with carrying out research in the school contexts, so as to help their teams to understand and give an answer to the intrinsic difficulties, we find in the qualitative approaches the most natural path. but, what perspective should we adopt? should it be intervention-based? it did not seem to us to be the most adequate approach given its tendency to overtake the responsibilities of school workers. the ethnographic approach was not satisfying either, considering the risks of entangling ourselves in endless descriptions of phenomena. neither did we want to carry out case studies. we were sure that we wanted to conduct research with the professionals in school contexts and not about them. our expectation was one of contributing to their processes of continuing education. it thus seemed that the action research would be an adequate approach. however, considering the complexity that usually surrounds this approach, we were not tempted, at first, to give its name to the approach we were going to employ. as the study progressed, it gave shape to what we shall call critical-collaborative action research. it is with this process that the present text shall deal.
Barbeiros- sangradores e curandeiros no Brasil (1808-28)
Pimenta, Tania Salgado;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 1998, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59701998000200005
Abstract: based on documentation from the institution known as the fisicatura-mor (1808-28), and mainly on proceedings involving its official ?accreditation? of medical activities, this analysis of popular therapists opens access to categories like bleeders and healers, who were persecuted for their activities down through the nineteenth century. the curing practices employed by these bleeders and curandeiros ranked low on the hierarchy of procedures acceptable by the fisicatura-mor. quantitative data analysis demonstrates a link between these practices and disadvantaged social positions. also analyzed was information that popular therapists and their clientele provided on these practices and on how they are accepted.
Transforma??es no exercício das artes de curar no Rio de Janeiro durante a primeira metade do Oitocentos
Pimenta, Tania Salgado;
História, Ciências, Saúde-Manguinhos , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-59702004000400004
Abstract: the article analyzes changes in curing practices between 1828 and 1855, mainly in rio de janeiro. this period saw academic physicians organizing themselves around the faculty of medicine, the imperial academy of medicine, and specialized periodicals, while popular practitioners were simultaneously losing ground in the legalization of their activities. the text compares changes in laws and the actions of oversight agencies with the activities of non-officialized practitioners and the population's reliance on their services. what stands out are the conflicts stemming from academic medicine's attempt to gain ascendancy over other healing arts, which shows how hard it was for the former to achieve a monopoly within therapeutic activities.

Entre sangradores e doutores: práticas e forma??o médica na primeira metade do século XIX
Pimenta, Tania Salgado;
Cadernos CEDES , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-32622003000100007
Abstract: during the first half of the xixth century, the activity of bleeder (crucial in the therapeutics of the period) experienced changes related to the gradual organization of the physicians - above all through the institutionalization of their education with the creation of medical schools. they fought for the monopoly of the medical care activities, and searched to make illegal and to disqualify the practice of bleeding exercised when practiced by anyone who wasn't a doctor and/or a surgeon graduate in the academy. this paper intends to analyze such changes, focusing on the relation between bleeders and doctors and the increasing concern of these for hygiene.
Da produ??o do lixo à transforma??o do resto
Velloso,Marta Pimenta;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232010000400037
Abstract: this research has a starting point the promising articulation between recyclable waste materials pickers and visual artists. their intersection point is the way they reshape the remnants of the consumption society: waste pickers give new uses to objects bringing dignity to cast out materials, while visual artists reshape these subjectively refused objects into art, giving them new social value. this study tries to locate the continuity gap we created in regard to waste materials processing - what may they tell about us? where do they stand at our social scale of values? thus it becomes clear how waste objects aren't just technical realities but renewed values. approaching waste objects with a logic that merely envisages their technical side would leave behind something they had as an essential part.
