Neotropical Entomology , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-566X2004000100007
Abstract: tijucameru gen. n. is proposed for panacris maxima kertész from brazil. the new genus differs from the allied genera panacris and spyridopa in the following characters: head wider than width of humeral callus, front flattenned in profile; antennal flagellum thumb-like narrowed apically, scutellar spines very long, 1.4 length of scutellum.

Papavero, Nelson;Pujol-Luz, José Roberto;
Revista Brasileira de Entomologia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0085-56262011000100024
Abstract: notes about the silkworm in chinese folklore. two legends about the silkworm (bombyx mori linnaeus, 1758) in chinese folklore are presented: one about its origin, the other about cats as protectors of silkworms and sericulture.
Descri??o do último ínstar Larval e do Pupário de Ptecticus testaceus (Fabr.) (Diptera: Stratiomyidae)
Neotropical Entomology , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-566X2001000400012
Abstract: the larva and the puparium of ptecticus testaceus are described based on 6 larvae and 45 puparia of imagoes emerged in laboratory. the larvae were reared in the pulp of the "abricó-de-macaco" fruit, couroupita guianensis (lecythidaceae). some notes on the biology of the species are presented.

Iheringia. Série Zoologia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0073-47212010000100009
Abstract: the genus barbiellinia bezzi, 1922, with five species, is endemic from brazil. here we described a new species barbiellinia illaetabilis sp. nov. based on 26 specimens (25 males and 1 female) from the state of rio de janeiro, brazil.
A larva de Chiromyza vittata Wiedemann (Diptera: Stratiomyidae)
Pujol-Luz, José R.;Vieira, Flávio D.;
Anais da Sociedade Entomológica do Brasil , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0301-80592000000100006
Abstract: the larva of chiromyza vittata is described for the first time, based on 12 larvae and two puparia. chiromyza larvae were collected in a coffee farm at manhua?u, state of minas gerais, brazil. some biological notes are also presented. c. vittata is also compared with the australian chiromyzine soldier-fly inopus rubriceps.
Morfologia e dura??o do desenvolvimento pós-embrionário de Chrysomya megacephala (Diptera: Calliphoridae) em condi??es de laboratório
Barros-Cordeiro, Karine Brenda;Pujol-Luz, José Roberto;
Papéis Avulsos de Zoologia (S?o Paulo) , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0031-10492010004700001
Abstract: morphology and duration of the post-embryonary development of chrysomya megacephala (diptera: calliphoridae) in laboratory conditions. the morphology and developmental time of the post-embryonic stage of chrysomya megacephala (fabricius) reared in laboratory on a beef diet, is described and compared to those of other blow-flies species. the parameters analyzed were the duration of the larval stages and the morphology. larvae were fixed and preserved at 2 hours intervals, from larval eclosion until the 50th hour of life, in order to determine the duration of each stage. the total period of larval development in c. megacephala was 98 hours and their mean length was 15.51 mm. this species presents a necrobiontophagous behavior and has sanitary and medico-legal importance, being used for estimating postmortem interval in criminal investigations.
Comparative morphology of the spermathecae of some species of Chrysomya Robineau-Desvoidy and Cochliomyia Townsend (Diptera, Calliphoridae)
Harterreiten-Souza, érica Sevilha;Pujol-Luz, José Roberto;
Revista Brasileira de Entomologia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0085-56262012005000002
Abstract: comparative morphology of the spermathecae of some species of chrysomya robineau-desvoidy and cochliomyia townsend (diptera, calliphoridae). little is known about the morphology of the chitinized structures of the spermathecae of the calliphoridae. in this work, the spermathecae of chrysomya albiceps wiedemann, 1819, c. megacephala fabricius, 1794, cochliomyia macellaria fabricius, 1775 and c. hominivorax coquerel, 1858 are described and illustrated. the occurrence in one species of four spermathecae, an atypical form for blow flies, was recorded for the first time. the analysis of these structures will allow a better understanding of this group as well as provide taxonomic characters for future phylogenetic studies.
Redescri??o de três espécies de Artemita Walker (Diptera, Stratiomyidae) do Brasil
Ururahy-Rodrigues, Alexandre;Pujol-Luz, José Roberto;
Revista Brasileira de Entomologia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0085-56262007000300011
Abstract: the stratiomyidae genus artemita walker 1854 is represented in the neotropical region by 14 species, 6 of which occur in brazil. the knowledge on the morphology of the species must still be worked. in the present study, male and female of a. brasiliana lindner, 1964 and females of a. convexa (walker, 1854) and a. hieroglyphica (wiedemann, 1830) are redescribed, with the description of their terminalia.
Cem anos da Entomologia Forense no Brasil (1908-2008)
Pujol-Luz, José Roberto;Arantes, Luciano Chaves;Constantino, Reginaldo;
Revista Brasileira de Entomologia , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0085-56262008000400001
Abstract: the history of the development of forensic entomology in brazil, its current status and perspectives are reviewed. those studies in brazil began in 1908 with the pioneer works conducted by roquette-pinto and oscar freire, who noted the high diversity of the native fauna of necrophagous insects and the impossibility of direct application of the methods developed in europe. in the last two decades, forensic entomology advanced rapidly in brazil, but there still are some important limitations, especially in relation to the taxonomy, biology and ecology of necrophagous insects and the lack of interaction between researchers and police investigators. today there are in brazil over 20 researchers involved with forensic entomology and tens of police investigators with some training in this field. guidelines for the development of this field of investigation in brazil are also presented.
