Open Access Library Journal (OALib Journal) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/oalib.1104650
The results of the experiment of dewatering analysis carried out on a municipal sludge were recorded. Similarly, analytical mathematics was used to develop an equation to calculate volume of filtrate. The two results were plotted in graphs and comparisons were made. The results show very close relationships between the two results. In fact in most cases the two results were almost overlapping. For example after 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 hours, the volumes of filtrates are: 0.0037 m3 (model), 0.004 m3 (experiment), 0.005 (model), 0.0055 (experiment), 0.006 (model), 0.0067 (experiment), 0.0066 (model), 0.0065 (experiment) and 0.0065 (model), 0.0064 (experiment). This has shown that the experiment was carried out very well and that, mathematical equations can be used directly in order to calculate the volume of filtrate and the values can be nearly the same with model results.
Severe depression following á-interferon usage in a patient with chronic myeloid leukemia

African Health Sciences , 2009,
Abstract: Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML), with a median age of 40 years, is one of the commonest haematological malignancies in Nigeria. Cytoreductive agents, which were hitherto the mainstay of treatment, neither induce cytogenetic nor haematologic remission. Alphainterferon (á-IFN), an endogenous glycoprotein with cytotoxic and natural killer cell enhancer effects has been found to induce haematologic and cytogenetic remission in patients with CML, but neuro- psychiatric complications of á -interferon (á-IFN) usage were not reported in Nigeria. Objective: To report a case of deliberate self-harm in University Lecturer as a side effect of á-IFN in the treatment of CML Method: Clinical and laboratory follow up of a patient receiving á-IFN in the management of CML from the time of diagnosis of CML to the point of loss of contact. Result: Severe depression is a complication that may adversely influence the clinical outcome of á-IFN usage Conclusions/Recommendations: Although interferon related depression is uncommon, it is suggested that pre-therapy interferon assays and neuro-psychiatric assessment are carried out in prospective users of á-IFN

Abstract: Background. Adolescents with epilepsy experience significant academic difficulties. However, little is known about the effects of epilepsy on the academic performance of adolescents with the disorder in Northern Nigeria. Objective. To assess the academic performance of adolescents with epilepsy and factors associated with poor performance in this population in a Northern Nigerian setting. Methods. The socio-demographic/clinical characteristics of 77 consecutive adolescents (aged 12 - 17 years) with epilepsy attending the Child and Adolescent Clinic of Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Kaduna, North-West, between March 2008 and September 2010 and the socio-demographic characteristics of 76 controls (matched for age and sex) were recorded. Information concerning school attendance and academic performance of the subjects and the controls were obtained from the adolescents and their parents or caregivers. Results. The mean ages of the subjects and the controls were 15.1 (standard deviation (SD) 2.1) and 14.7 (SD 1.7) years, respectively (p>0.05), the mean duration of illness was 6.1 (SD 4.6) years, the mean seizure-free period was 16.8 (SD 15.6) weeks, and 64.9% of the subjects and 57.9% of the controls were males. Forty-six subjects (59.7%) and 12 controls (15.8%) had poor academic performance (p<0.001). Long duration of illness, short seizure-free periods and irregular school attendance were significantly associated with poor academic performance (p<0.05). Conclusions. Poor academic performance is common among adolescents with epilepsy and is associated with early onset, poor seizure control and missing school. Efforts should be made to control seizures and educate society about the illness.

International Journal of Advanced Research , 2013,
Abstract: The present study of ecological impacts on Marsh crocodiles in Manghopir was carried out in the months of January to December 2008. In order to assess, the microbial contamination, detection of pollutant indicator organisms in water samples, to determine the physico-chemical parameters were performed. The detection of different physico-chemical parameters which are temperature of air and water, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate, chloride, sodium, potassium, sulphur, carbonate, biological oxygen demand, dissolved oxygen were analyzed with the recognized standard method of WHO collected water samples from the Manghopir Karachi. Marsh crocodiles are reported endangered around the world due to the vulnerability of marshy habitat to increase pollution and environmental deterioration. Toxic chemical contaminants were estimated below the detection range, while some other chemicals were found within the normal level recognized by WHO. The range of contamination, proximity to pollution source and the metabolic capacity of Marsh crocodiles suggest that the species is under threatened due to toxic chemicals in the pool of Manghopir Karachi.

Open Journal of Metal (OJMetal) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ojmetal.2011.11002
Abstract: In this work, accumulative roll bonding (ARB) process as a severe plastic deformation was applied on an AA5083 sheet up to 6 cycles at the temperature of 300℃ and at the strain rate of 50 s‐1. The results of tensile tests show that the values of the yield stress and the ultimate tensile strength don't change considerably after 4 cycles. Also, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrograph confirmed that the microstructure has fine (sub) grains with the size of 200 nm - 400 nm.
The Dynamic Location Model to Consider Background Traffic  [PDF]

Journal of Transportation Technologies (JTTs) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jtts.2012.21005
Abstract: This study concerns to the determination of location of freight distribution warehouses. It is part of a series of research projects on a distribution system we developed to deal with cases in a public service obligation state-owned company (PSO-SOC). This current research is characterized by the consideration of background traffic of the entire time period of planning rather than one certain time target on location model. It is aimed that the location decision to be more applicable and accommodative to the dynamic of the traffic condition. Once the decision is implemented, it will give the best outcome for the entire time period, not only for the initial time, end time or certain time of time period. A heuristic approach is proposed to simplify complexity of the model and network representation technique is applied to solve the model. A hyphotetical example is discussed to illustrate the mechanism of finding the optimal solution in term of both its objective function and applicability.

Abstract: Stock Market is the market for security where organized issuance and trading of Stocks take place either through exchange or over the counter in electronic or physical form. It plays an important role in canalizing capital from the investors to the business houses, which consequently leads to the availability of funds for business expansion. In this paper, we investigate to predict the daily excess returns of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) indices over the respective Treasury bill rate returns. Initially, we prove that the excess return time series do not fluctuate randomly. We are applying the prediction models of Autoregressive feed forward Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) to predict the excess return time series using lagged value. For the Artificial Neural Networks model using a Genetic Algorithm is constructed to choose the optimal topology. This paper examines the feasibility of the prediction task and provides evidence that the markets are not fluctuating randomly and finally, to apply the most suitable prediction model and measure their efficiency.

Abstract: Peran utama sub sektor tanaman pangan adalah pemenuhan kebutuhan pokok penduduk Indonesia.

Applied Mathematical Sciences , 2013,
Abstract: This paper presents a study on reliability characteristics of two dissimilar systems.System I consist of two paths while system II consist of three paths. A signal flowfrom the source to the terminal through the paths. Failure times and service times ofeach system are assumed to be exponentially distributed. The failure and repair timesassumed exponentially distributed. Using Kolmogorov’s forward equations method, derivations for availability, busy period and profit function are presented in thispaper. Also numerical illustrations for the two systems are presented. Comparisonsare made based on assumed numerical values for the two systems.
