Fabrication and characterization of HAp /Al2O3 composite cating on titanium substrate  [PDF]

Abstract: HAp/Al2O3 composite coating was fabricated onto micro-arc oxidized titanium substrate using a combination of electrophoretic depo-sition and reaction bonding process. SEM, EDS and XRD were employed to characterize the titanium substrate and as-prepared coat-ings. The interfacial bonding strength of the sintered composite coating was tested by shear strength testing experiment. Results show that the green form composite coating can be easily sintered with no cracks and de-composition at 850℃, the bonding strength to the substrate is significantly improved com-pared with the single HAp coating.
Spin Dynamics of t-J Model on Triangular Lattice

Abstract: We study the spin dynamics of t-J model on triangular lattice in the Slave-Boson-RPA scheme in light of the newly discovered superconductor Na$_{x}$CoO$_{2}$. We find resonant peak in the dynamic spin susceptibility in the $d+id^{^{\prime}}$-wave superconducting state for both hole and electron doping in large doping range. We find the geometrical frustration inherent of the triangular lattice provide us a unique opportunity to discriminate the SO(5) and RPA-like intepretation of the origin of the resonant peak.

Abstract: Recent study on certificateless authenticated key agreement focuses on bilinear pairing-free certificateless authenticated key agreement protocol. Yet it has got limitations in the aspect of computational amount. So it is important to reduce the number of the scalar multiplication over elliptic curve group in bilinear pairing-free protocols. This paper proposed a new bilinear pairing-free certificateless two-party authenticated key agreement protocol, providing more efficiency among related work and proof under the random oracle model.
A Radio-Aware Routing Algorithm for Reliable Directed Diffusion in Lossy Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), transmission errors occur frequently due to node failure, battery discharge, contention or interference by objects. Although Directed Diffusion has been considered as a prominent data-centric routing algorithm, it has some weaknesses due to unexpected network errors. In order to address these problems, we proposed a radio-aware routing algorithm to improve the reliability of Directed Diffusion in lossy WSNs. The proposed algorithm is aware of the network status based on the radio information from MAC and PHY layers using a cross-layer design. The cross-layer design can be used to get detailed information about current status of wireless network such as a link quality or transmission errors of communication links. The radio information indicating variant network conditions and link quality was used to determine an alternative route that provides reliable data transmission under lossy WSNs. According to the simulation result, the radio-aware reliable routing algorithm showed better performance in both grid and random topologies with various error rates. The proposed solution suggested the possibility of providing a reliable transmission method for QoS requests in lossy WSNs based on the radio-awareness. The energy and mobility issues will be addressed in the future work.
Novel Super-Resolution Method Based on High Order Nonlocal-Means

Abstract: Super-resolution without explicit sub-pixel motion estimation is a very active subject of image reconstruction containing general motion. The Non-Local Means (NLM) method is a simple image reconstruction method without explicit motion estimation. In this paper we generalize NLM method to higher orders using kernel regression can apply to super-resolution reconstruction. The performance of the generalized method is compared with other methods.
TinyONet: A Cache-Based Sensor Network Bridge Enabling Sensing Data Reusability and Customized Wireless Sensor Network Services

Abstract: In recent years, a few protocol bridge research projects have been announced to enable a seamless integration of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) with the TCP/IP network. These studies have ensured the transparent end-to-end communication between two network sides in the node-centric manner. Researchers expect this integration will trigger the development of various application domains. However, prior research projects have not fully explored some essential features for WSNs, especially the reusability of sensing data and the data-centric communication. To resolve these issues, we suggested a new protocol bridge system named TinyONet. In TinyONet, virtual sensors play roles as virtual counterparts of physical sensors and they dynamically group to make a functional entity, Slice. Instead of direct interaction with individual physical sensors, each sensor application uses its own WSN service provided by Slices. If a new kind of service is required in TinyONet, the corresponding function can be dynamically added at runtime. Beside the data-centric communication, it also supports the node-centric communication and the synchronous access. In order to show the effectiveness of the system, we implemented TinyONet on an embedded Linux machine and evaluated it with several experimental scenarios.
Convergent and divergent patterns of morphological differentiation provide more evidence for reproductive character displacement in a wood cricket Gryllus fultoni (Orthoptera: Gryllidae)

Abstract: Except for mirror area, the number of teeth in a file, and ovipositor length of G. fultoni, all male and female morphological characters in G. fultoni and G. vernalis exhibited a uniform tendency to decrease in size with increasing latitude. There was no significant variation in female morphological characters between sympatric and allopatric G. fultoni populations. However, males of sympatric and allopatric G. fultoni populations significantly differed in head width, hind femur length, and mirror area even after controlling for clinal factors. Head width and hind femur length of G. fultoni were more similar to those of G. vernalis in sympatric populations than in allopatric populations, resulting in morphological convergence of G. fultoni and G. vernalis in sympatry. However, the mirror area of G. fultoni displayed the divergent pattern in relation to the sympatric G. vernalis populations.Divergence-enhancing selection may be acting on mirror area as well as calling song characters, whereas local adaptation or clinal effects may explain variation in other morphological characters in sympatric populations of G. fultoni. This study also suggests that structures and behaviors that directly enhance reproductive isolation may evolve together, independently of other morphological traits.Once the subject of controversy, character displacement, a pattern in which the difference between two species is accentuated in areas of sympatry and is reduced in areas of allopatry [1,2], is now recognized as a powerful force driving trait diversification and even speciation in sympatry [3-8]. The divergence of characters is driven by selection against interspecific resource competition in ecological character displacement (ECD) or by selection against costly hybridization in reproductive character displacement (RCD). Abstract: Y- and Si-based oxide nanopowders were synthesized by a hydrothermal reaction of Y or Si powders with NaOH or LiOH aqueous solution. Nanoparticles with different morphology such as elongated nanospheres, flower-like nanoparticles and nanowires were produced by a control of processing parameters, in particular, the starting composition of solution. The preliminary result of electrochemical examination showed that the hydrothermally processed nanowires exhibit high initial capacities of Li-ion storage: 653 mAh/g for Y2O3 nanowires as anode materials and 186 mAh/g for Li2Si2O5 nanowires as cathode materials in a Li secondary cell. Compared to the powder with elongated sphere or flower-like shapes, the nanowires showed a higher Li-ion capacity and a better cycle property.
